6th Grade Math recently learned about ratios. They also made monsters. Monsters? Yes! A bit like Dr. Frankenstein, Ms. Diamond’s 6th graders created unique monster families using a digital monster builder. To build their monsters, they had to use ratios of their choice. For example, a monster family could have 3 mouths for every eye, or 2 horns for every arm. The possibilities were endless! After creating their monsters, students recorded the ratios used, and then it was up to the class to try to analyze the monsters and determine the ratios used to create them. This fun and creative project is in our CT Spotlight this month because it is an excellent example of decomposition. Students had to break down their monsters into parts and segments, think about the ratios they wanted to use (again looking at parts) and then create their monsters. Check out the images below to see how this monster mash works!
