Students in Ms. Farrell’s Inventions and Innovations class used SketchUp 3D Design Software to learn 3D modeling online. As they worked on these creative projects, students used technology to manipulate planes and surfaces and to design colorful three-dimensional structures and maps. Creations included “Mike's Malt Shop,” a pirate playhouse, a Wizard of Oz stage set, and some very nice looking neighborhood homes.
So, why 3D modeling? Not only is it fun, creative, and digital, it is also a tool used in industries including entertainment, gaming, design, architecture, publishing, geology, and science. We can’t wait to see how our students will apply their new 3D modeling skills next!
Students study bridge engineering and use 3D modeling to construct bridges. The problem they must solve? How do I construct a bridge that is both sturdy and effective for its purpose?
Students designed Mousetrap Cars to help solve them understand the physics of motion and to experiment with design as it relates to speed and distance.
