The big music event for 3rd graders is the Veteran's Day Concert in November. They sing this along with the 4th and 5th grade chorus. This has become a tradition at Pleasant Union and a favorite of families. We always invite veterans to attend and recognize them during the concert. As you can see from the photo to the left, we love veterans to join us on stage for a group photo!
As you can imagine, I start the year teaching patriotic music. Fortunately, in 2nd grade, they have learned one of the hardest to sing: The Star Spangled Banner! As the year progresses, 3rd graders dive more into reading notes on the staff and playing them on our pitched instruments.
In late September I will send out a request for photos of the Veterans in your life who have served in one of the 5 branches of the Military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard. I will post them in the school lobby as we approach Veterans Day ( please label them so that I can return them)
