Welcome to 8th grade and to the Cardinals Team! I am John Ver Vers, your Math instructor! I could not be more excited to start this year everyone.

I am from a suburb outside Chicago called Downers Grove, IL. I graduated high school in 2008 and began my Bachelors in Middle School Education at Illinois State University, Bloomington/Normal with a focus on math and science. After college, I enlisted in the US Army for five years as an Explosive Ordnance Technician (EOD) stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. I began my path as an science educator shortly after my service in 2018 at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences as a volunteer. I would later become Future Worlds Coordinator and AmeriCorps Program Director for the Museum before coming to Pine Hollow. This is my fifth year at PHMS and I have loved every year of it. This will be my second year teaching Math 1 and first year for Math 8.

When I am not at school, I enjoy playing video games, axe throwing, and hiking. My favorite games include the Fallout, Far Cry, and Mass Effect series as well as Minecraft on Xbox and PC. On the weekends you may find me practicing my disc throwing at one of Raleigh’s many disc golf courses.

I hope we are all ready to learn some amazing math tricks, I know I am!
