OGES Service Details for AIG
We began services for 3rd, 4th & 5th graders during their second week of school. This later start gives our students and classroom teachers time to settle into the new year. As we move through the new school year, AIG will focus on providing challenging learning opportunities for our identified and Talent Development AIG students.
In planning small group lessons for your students and working alongside classroom teachers, I will rely on research-based practices and grade-level standards. These approaches will help me effectively meet the needs of our gifted students in both Reading and Math.
In the Wake County Public School System, AIG Teachers provide support in two ways - direct and indirect instruction.
Direct instruction is defined as an AIG teacher-led small group for identified AIG students.
Identified AIG students receive 45 minutes of direct instruction each week in each identified area.
Small groups are held once a week for Math and once a week for Reading.
Small groups are held in the AIG cottage and led by the AIG teacher.
I engage the students in different learning opportunities focused around enriching the grade-level standards and collaborating with their AIG peers.
Indirect instruction is defined as supporting teaching and learning by collaborating with teachers, administrators and other district level supports. This support is ongoing for all identified students.
For example:
I actively engage in weekly grade-level PLCs to ensure we provide the most effective framework and service options for our AIG students’ learning.
I work closely with teachers to assess each student’s well-being and readiness to learn and to identify and eliminate barriers, creating the most supportive learning environment possible.
