The Whole Child (1st Quarter)


Positive Reinforcement Sub Committee

Under the Whole Child Committee, I am a member of the Positive Reinforcement subcommittee. This subcommittee has focused on rebuilding the format of compass cards for the virtual learning environment. Compass Cards is a tool used to foster student behavior and engagement in school. This subcommittee also surveyed staff in the school and predetermined the rewards for earning the milestone number of compass cards.

School Improvement Team

I currently serve on the Whole Child - PBIS committee. I have collaborated with the other committee members to connect families to resources, redesign positive reinforcement for the virtual learning environment, distribute materials for social and emotional learning, and plan a social and emotional learning night for families. This committee also focuses on positive reinforcement and family and parent engagement.

Coffee and Conversation

Through the Whole Child Committee I have co-lead parent conversations with fellow committee members. We focused on educating pre-k through 5th grade parents on Capturing Kids Hearts, individual student and class wide incentives, as well as growth mindset.

Professional Learning Team

I am an active member of the 5th grade professional learning team. I am responsible for planning and communicating all reading and social studies lessons and materials. Additionally, I contribute to my team by working with my PLT to evaluate student learning through a variety of assessments and analyze the data to drive my instruction and lesson planning. We create action plans for each quarter based on student data.

The fifth grade team holds parent information nights each month to keep parents up to date with school and grade level news. I create the presentations we use during these meetings. I also created the 5th grade EOG and graduation parent slides, as well as the 5th grade graduation program.

I frequently attend leadership meetings as a representative of my grade level team and communicate updates with my team.

Book Study

I facilitated a peer discussion on a chapter of my book study book, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. I shared the important takeaways from my assigned chapters and discussed how it was relevant to my role as a teacher. In the second half of the school year I participated in a second profession book study, studying The Classroom Chef. I facilitated a chapter discussion, and studied how to better engage students in math lessons. In the fall of 2021, I facilitated a peer discussion on, The Hard Hat. We discussed how to be a good teammate, and how that impacts our students.

Girls on the Run

I coached Girls on the Run during the fall of 2021 and I am actively coaching the spring 2022 season. Girls on the Run is a program designed to teach 3rd-5th grade girls leadership and confidence, social/emotional skills, as well as the importance of physical activity. We spend 8 weeks training for a 5k race. I facilitate lessons and offer encouragement to girls as we are training.

Meredith College Future Teacher Support

In the fall of 2021, I worked with a Meredith College future educator. The college student came into my classroom and observed my teaching, student behavior, small groups, and worked with students.

School Wide Success

  • I have led and attended interviews for potential EGES teacher candidates.

  • I attend vertical PLTS and collaborate with teachers from other grade levels in order to improve the academic success of students.

  • I am familiar with the Teacher Working Conditions and participate in school wide conversations on how to improve TWC.

  • I attended the MTSS retreat as a 3-5 representative where we worked to clarify MTSS procedures and resources.
