Intermediate Dance 2 builds upon the foundational skills developed in beginning dance courses, catering to students who have completed K-8 dance education or achieved beginning-level high school standards. This course is an audition placement based course. Students will audition each Spring for the following school year's placement.
The course focuses on several key areas, including:
Choreography and Performance: Students will develop their ability to create and perform dances using various elements, principles, and forms to convey meaning.
Performance Values: The course emphasizes improving performance through elements like clarity, concentration, and projection.
Critical Thinking and Evaluation: Students will learn to evaluate dance using aesthetic criteria and analyze how theatrical elements contribute to meaning.
Cultural and Historical Contexts: The curriculum explores the historical development of dance, particularly from the Renaissance to the Romantic periods, and its connections to other subjects
Key skills developed include creating and organizing dance sequences, evaluating dance using established criteria, and demonstrating appropriate dance etiquette and performance values.
The objectives of the course are for students to be able to create expressive dances, utilize various choreographic structures, evaluate dance effectively, understand the impact of theatrical elements, demonstrate proper dance conduct, and enhance performances through applied values.
