In North Carolina high schools, the Dance III Honors course, often referred to as "Accomplished Dance III," is designed for highly motivated dancers with prior experience in dance. This is an audition placement based course. Students will audition each Spring semester for the following school year's placement.
Course content and expectations
Focus on refining technique: Students continue to build upon their technical skills, exploring aspects like dynamic alignment, articulation of movement, and aesthetic criteria.
Deepening understanding of dance elements: Students further integrate their understanding and application of space, time, weight, and effort in dance.
Choreography and performance: The course emphasizes developing choreographic skills, presenting original works, and understanding the role of improvisation in creating dance.
Dance history and culture: Students explore dance within historical and cultural contexts, including different dance styles and the impact of societal factors on dancers.
Interdisciplinary connections: The course promotes understanding connections between dance and other subjects, such as history, health, and other art forms.
Performance requirements: Students are required to participate in performances or concerts, showcasing their dance and choreographic skills.
Honors Distinction
Enhanced rigor and depth: As an honors course, Dance III Accomplished provides students with opportunities for a more rigorous and in-depth exploration of dance concepts and practices compared to standard-level courses.
Advanced learning: This level prepares students for higher-level dance studies and encourages them to take ownership of their learning, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills within the context of dance.
