About the course

Honors Advanced Dance 4 is a high school course designed for highly motivated students with prior dance experience. It provides a rigorous, in-depth exploration of dance as a creative art form, building upon prior knowledge and emphasizing advanced techniques, choreography, and performance. This course is a year-long course and is an audition placement based class. Students will audition each Spring for placement for the upcoming school year. 

Course Content and Focus

Advanced Technique Building: Students delve deeper into dance techniques, developing strength, flexibility, endurance, and proficiency in various dance forms.

Choreography and Performance: The curriculum emphasizes the creative process of choreography, with students generating their own works for public presentation.

Dance History and Theory: Students will study dance in various cultures and historic periods, exploring the development of dance and its connections to other disciplines and social issues.

Interdisciplinary Connections: The course encourages students to connect dance with other subject areas, using dance to explore concepts in world history and other disciplines.

Performance Values and Professionalism: Students will refine performance skills such as clarity, concentration, focus, and projection, along with developing professionalism in rehearsal and performance settings.

• Students are expected to actively participate in class, rehearsals, and performances, potentially including after-school commitments and public showings.

This course offers a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing further dance studies or careers in dance performance, choreography, or related fields.
