About Mrs. Jensen

Jill (Smith) Jensen grew up in West Texas, the daughter of an orchestra teacher, studying violin and piano as a youth. However, her love of singing eventually won her full attention and she graduated from Texas Tech University in 1994 with a degree in music education, emphasis in vocal and choral music.

During college, she was a member of the esteemed Madrigal Singers who performed throughout the community and toured Europe. She also enjoyed being a part of the college musical theater scene and after graduation, performed with the Fort Worth opera for two seasons before starting her family.

Mrs. Jensen is in her 2nd year at Ligon. She was a middle school choir director in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for 4 years and grew a program from 75 to over 200 students. Over the past 24 years, Jill has always been involved with music education of all ages. Such jobs have included an education director for a private music school, a preschool music teacher and the director of the gold-winning Peak City Singers of Apex. She's directed adult and youth choirs and orchestras at her church, taught over 15,000 private lessons and substituted for music teachers in Wake County. Recently, she was the Music Director for Finding Patience in Holly Springs and for Carolina Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) Beauty and The Beast, High School Musical, Oliver and Les Miserables .

Mrs. Jensen got married to a childhood acquaintance this Fall who lives in Texas. She will move to Texas after this school year is over. She loves any precious time with her 3 children (ages 15, 19, 22) and understands how busy parents are. As time permits around her teaching and family life, she occasionally performs as a soloist or in community musical theater with her son.
