iPads

Known Issues Updates:

  • (Feb 2, 2017) We've had a few people ask why their QR Codes can't scan and open Safeshare videos any more. Evidently a setting somewhere (not sure if it's Apple or SafeShare) has stopped us from being able to open the videos.

A customer service agent at SafeShare said they are working on a fix, but he said the only thing that works now is adding "?clean=1" to the end of the web address. For example:

https://safeshare.tv/x/im-JM0f_J7s

becomes

https://safeshare.tv/x/im-JM0f_J7s?clean=1

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Our iPads help us to encourage students to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and create. Please refer to these policies to help us do this efficiently and safely.

Devices

We have three or four, 16 GB Wi-Fi enabled iPad 2’s for use in each classroom, along with an iPad mini in each room K-2. The iPads are in protective cases labeled with the library’s barcode. This library barcode number is so that it can be easily checked out, like a book, from our Library through the Destiny Library Automation System for inventory.

Circulation

Check-Out will be the week of pre-planning. Check-In is the week of post-planning. Teachers should keep iPads in covers, in their baskets, and locked up or hidden for security reasons. Upon return, iPads must have all parts included. Our technology budget cannot afford to purchase new power cord and adaptor ($40), cases ($10-40), or iPads ($400).

Management

It is the responsibility of the teacher to charge iPads and install updates using the account listed below by grade. There is also a Restrictions Password for apps to be purchased/downloaded.

Do not leave the laminated notecard with the passwords in the student iPad cases. Students could use the restrictions password for bypassing our set limits.

Teachers may choose their free apps by reading reviews from blogs, tweets, and other recent 2016 rankings:

New apps should only be installed on iPads for student use after thorough review. An app can easily be deleted if found to be inappropriate.

You can write reviews for other Kingswood Teachers here.

Settings → General → Restrictions →

The iPads are setup to download apps and visit websites using the restrictions password below (hid for all outside of Kingswood). All iPads should be set up for these restrictions, make sure yours are correct by following the above path to the restrictions page and comparing your settings to those found in this image..

Make sure your iPads all have these restrictions before student use. You can also decide how to arrange the apps for your iPads, using folders or screens for each discipline.

Storage - If you’re close to full, you can choose apps to delete by evaluating the space use.
