  • Students will produce a piece of writing that states an opinion.

  • The writing should include a reason for the opinion and provide closure.

  • Students will produce a piece of informative writing. They should have a topic sentence, supporting details, and a closing sentence.


  • Students will continue to practice how to retell a story with a deep focus on discussing characters in fiction stories.

  • Students will learn about their world through reading. They will use informational texts to discuss what they are learning.

  • Students will work together to research a topic and become experts.

  • Tap and blend some long vowels, letter pairs (qu, sk, st, sl, sp, gl, bl, cl, etc.), chunks of sound (all, am, an), and Letterland best friends (ff, ll, ss) words.

  • Recognize long vowel sounds versus short vowel sounds.

  • Measuring and ordering three objects by length

  • Collecting and reading data (simple graphs and charts)

  • Solving addition and subtraction problems using strategies

  • Understanding the equal sign

  • Discuss the concept of landforms and bodies of water.

  • Examine and explain the features seen on a map.

  • Discuss ways that people change the environment (planting trees, recycling, building homes, etc.)

  • Discuss natural resources and environmental impacts

  • Recognize the patterns of the Earth, Moon, and Sun.

  • Recognize differences in the features of the day and night sky.

  • Recognize patterns in the changes of the Moon.
