Chinese Beginning (1st semester) and Continuing (2nd semester) together make up the first -year Chinese course at Moore Square. During first-year Chinese, students learn basic Chinese vocabulary and also about how to discuss and celebrate various Chinese holidays. More specifically, the year's curriculum stresses Chinese listening and speaking, and an introduction into the writing and recognition of Chinese characters, while its learning content puts a focus on "Me." What I mean by "Me“ is that students learn how to introduce themselves (their names, ages, grades, what they look like and a description of their personalities), their families, and talking about their likes and dislikes. By the end of the year, students should be able to carry out very basic conversations in Chinese and also possess a beginner's understanding of Chinese culture.
