The purpose of Unit 3 is for students to utilize audience analysis, research, and rhetorical elements to create and deliver a speech that defends a clear stance on a controversial topic. By the end of Unit 3, students will be able to:

• Create a detailed analysis of audience, and utilize this analysis in speech development
• Develop research questions; Execute research to find the answers to these questions
• Develop a clear, concise stance on a controversial topic
• Defend topic stance utilizing research, while considering audience questions, needs, and objections
• Utilize listening principles to extract important information from an argument; create a counterargument
