Homework/Classwork Rubric

Texts

We'll use mostly shorter texts in English I. Copies of texts will be provided. If you wish to purchase your own copies of our longer texts, I can show you the editions we will use in class so you can ensure that yours match. (This is helpful, especially when we cite page numbers!)

To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee

Romeo & Juliet - William Shakespeare (we will be using the Holt Literature textbook edition of this text)

You will also choose 1-2 independent reading books this semester. We will visit the GHHS Media Center to choose books, but you are always free to use your own.

Google Classroom

You will submit homework/classwork assignments and take reading check quizzes through Google Classroom. You have been sent an invitation to join your class period through your WCPSS email account. If you haven't received the invitation, you can join by going to Google Classroom (use your WCPSS account) and enter the appropriate class code. Please join the correct class, otherwise your assignments won't be counted.

2nd Period - idk10z2

3rd Period - lan4fb (** That's a lowercase L**)

4th Period - powlcto

Turnitin

To submit essays in English I, you will use Turnitin.com. This website allows us to electronically grade your essay, and it checks each submission for plagiarism. To use the website, you should do the following:

1) Go to http://www.turnitin.com and create an account. Please use an email address you regularly check, and whose password you remember. Please write down (or put in your phone/tablet/etc) the email address and password you use for Turnitin! If you forget the email address that you used to create your account, please ask me - do not simply create another account.

2) Enroll in the appropriate class. To do this, click on the "Enroll in a Class" tab at the top of the page. Enter the appropriate class ID and password for your section:

- 2nd Period: Class ID = 17211595 Enrollment Key = English (*case sensitive)

- 3rd Period: Class ID = 17211608 Enrollment Key = English (*case sensitive)

- 4th Period: Class ID = 17211624 Enrollment Key = English (*case sensitive)

3) You will submit each of your essays to this site. You will NOT need to turn in paper copies of your essay submissions.

4) Each essay may only be submitted once. If you need to make a change after you submit, you will have to come and ask me to remove your first submission. Please do this in person and do not send me an email about it!

5) Essay submission boxes will be open 48 hours before the due date. You can submit your essay any time after I open the box -- you do not have to wait until the actual due date. This may be helpful for those of you who like to get things done early, or who are often out of town for sports and other activities.

6) Each essay will be due by 11:59 p.m. on the due date. Any essay received after this time will be marked late and will lose points. Therefore, it is very important that you do not wait until the last minute to submit your essay!

7) Submissions receive a confirmation. Make sure you receive this. If you don't receive it, please try submitting your essay again.
