STUDENTS OFF TO A GOOD START!
Starting another phase to your academic career and there is so much anticipation. Show your teachers, parents and most importantly yourself that you are ready.
List all the things that you believe you'll need help with. Make a plan of how you will do things differently.
Set goals for this year and note the steps to get to your goals.
Organization is a big deal...use your agenda to record test dates, due dates, take notes in class, use binders, dividers, post-its etc to organize and simplify your life.
Avoid procrastinating...start assignments early, break up larger tasks into smaller manageable chunks, advocate for yourself when you need help.
It does not pay to be the class clown. Teachers do not appreciate classroom distractions or disruptions. A little humor here and there is okay but try to stay focused for the most part.
Choose your friends wisely. They are not all really your “FRIENDS.” Use good judgement when faced with negative/positive peer pressure.
Talk to the responsible adults in your life (parents, teachers, counselors) to help you navigate life.
Accept you for who you are and “Be your own kind of beautiful.”
TEACHERS...
Get to know you as more than just a student.
Make meaningful connections with you because you matter to them.
Expect a year of great year learning and want you to work to your ability.
Meet you where you are academically and expect growth.
Expect you to be efficient in the classroom and with your work.
Create and maintain a relationship of honesty, high expectations, and trust is of the utmost importance.
