TRANSITIONING TO MIDDLE SCHOOL
As your first year in middle school, you will have several victories but also face some challenges. Please note that it is all okay...it is all part of the growing process. We live and learn, and through our experiences and challenges, we build character. Whatever the case, we must be humble and remember that we are not alone. There are always people around us who are willing to help, and you will also have opportunities to help others in need. You will grow by leaps and bounds in middle school in all areas of your life.
PERSEVERE in your work and stay GROUNDED in your VALUES. We are a TEAM and we will hold each other ACCOUNTABLE so that we can all achieve ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE and SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUCCESS.
I am excited and looking forward to working with all my 6th-grade Dolphins.
QUARTER 1
July 28th, 2025
Welcome Durant Dolphins to an exciting start of the 2025-26 school year! I believe we are going to have a successful year filled with great academic success and heights of social/emotional learning experiences.
I am excited to introduce myself as one of your 6th grade counselors serving last names M through Z. I will be working closely with you in your different classes supporting your academic and social emotional learning via whole group lessons, small groups and individual sessions.
August
Please encourage your student to always do his/her best in academics and in social interaction with their peers. Let’s work together to support our Learners & Leaders to make a smooth “Transition & Succeed in Middle School.”
September
The quarter will be over in a few weeks, and students will receive their first report card in middle school. We will continue to work together to support our Learners & Leaders to make a smooth “Transition & Succeed in Middle School.”
SEL Behavior Universal Screener
We have been fortunate to be among the schools chosen to participate in the district’s Social, Emotional (SEL) Behavior Universal Screener. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and staff! To phase in the program, we will screen all students in grades 6th through 8th in the coming weeks.
What is the SEL Behavior Universal Screener?
We will be using the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 or BIMAS-2 (pronounced BYE-mahs). This research-based screening tool will help identify students who are at risk of future academic, behavioral, or emotional difficulties. Just as some students benefit from additional academic support and interventions, we recognize that others would benefit from extra support to strengthen their behavioral, social, and emotional skills. Dates for screening to be determined...stay tuned.
Ms. Deen will be checking emails from 7:30am-3pm, Mondays-Fridays.
