2025 - Friday, March 9th, from 8 - 11:30 am: A school-wide event where students will learn about and explore careers that need a global mindset to understand and interact with people from other cultures. More information below.
Event Title: Global Marketplace
Date: Friday March 21st
Time commitment: 3 ¾ hours - arrive about 7:45 - 8 and leave at 11:30.
Format: You will give about a 8-10 minute presentation to a classroom of students and then have a few minutes for questions. The students within one grade will rotate classrooms and then you switch halls to each of the other grades and repeat. You will be giving this same presentation 12 times to 12 classes of students. Light refreshments will be available.
If you cannot commit to the whole time, we can work out a smaller chunk of time to present to one or two grade levels.
Magnitude of impact: You will speak to 300-350 students during the full time period
Description of event: Global Marketplace is all about careers that involve a global connection. This could involve:
travelling internationally for your work
working with international clientele
having international collaborators or parts of the company
understanding other cultures (even right here in the US)
needing to understand international events or situations & how it affects your business
staying on top of international regulations
addressing Sustainable Development Goals (see attachments) & taking action
I am also looking for someone who might have some experience interacting with our ECS kiddos - using a more interactive format if their company has positions that would work for them - involving simple tasks like making coffee, greeting people, stocking shelves, cleaning etc. For the international aspect - perhaps speak to respect for all cultures in all roles - boss, coworkers, customers.
OUR VISION for our GLOBAL MARKETPLACE Event
Global Marketplace is a career information fair that ties into our magnet theme of global studies, four domains of global competencies, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the study of world languages.
At our Global Marketplace event, presenters will share through the lens of their career, their experience in a modern world of globalization. Whether it is a career in which you work abroad, or a career in which you are required to speak a foreign language(s), or perhaps a career in which you must interact with foreign companies and organizations, the goal is for presenters to help students understand the required skills to be successful and competitive applicants in today's global job market.
We are seeking presenters that feel comfortable presenting to middle schoolers a 10 minute presentation about their career and also provide examples of how their career is reliant on the globalization of industry, marketplace, workforce, etc.
Such fixtures as pictures, videos, demonstrations, expo showcases work best for the middle school audience. Middle schoolers also do best with information they can relate to by seeing a direct connection to their own lives and future goals.
Presenters should be prepared to share with students on topics ranging from all aspects of their careers: Education, Internships, Skills, Interviewing, Salary/Benefits (projected not personal), Challenges, Goals, Awards, Job Descriptions, Advice, etc., and how their career is reliant on a global world/global marketplace.
In the end, the goal of the presentation is for students to not only understand the importance of having the correct skills to work in a global marketplace, but also become excited about your particular job or industry.
Ideally each company/industry would be represented by at least 2 representatives.
