School Psychologist

Meet Mr. Scharstein

Hello! My name is Harry Scharstein and I am the school psychologist for Cedar Fork Elementary. This will be my second year with Wake County Public Schools and my 10th as a school psychologist. I received my graduate training at The Citadel in Charleston, SC, where I earned a MA in General Psychology as well as a Specialist in Education (EdS) in School Psychology.

At Cedar Fork I serve on the Student Services and Special Education teams. I routinely assist with evaluations for special education as well as Section 504 eligibility, and frequently sit in on meetings related to specific students and school-wide practices. A big part of my job is to help teams develop school-wide systems of support as well as to problem solve on the individual student level for academic and social-emotional needs. I am always happy to answer questions around Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Special Education, especially pertaining to evaluations and eligibility. Currently, my time is split between Cedar Fork and another elementary school. I'm looking forward to working with all of you during the upcoming school year!!

What does the School Psychologist Do?

School Psychology, part of Counseling and Student Services, advocates for and supports learning and social/emotional health for all students. School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.
