Participation Requirements

Participation in a FVMS Broadway Bengals production is a privilege reserved exclusively for students enrolled in Grades 6-8 at Fuquay-Varina Middle School of the Public Schools of Wake County, NC.

As such, it comes with the required participation behaviors of both students and parents.

• Be quiet, respectful, attentive during the rehearsal, listen closely, and do as directed by the directors and other adults in charge.

• Behave properly and respectfully and not use inappropriate language with other cast members or the adults in charge, refuse to follow directions and behave properly or exhibit other behavior that violates FVMS student behavior rules.

• Not come to rehearsal if I am suspended from school for any reason while I am suspended. Repeated suspensions may result in my being removed from the cast.

• Be at every rehearsal unless I am contagiously sick or have an unavoidable conflict I have cleared in advance with Ms. Lundberg. I understand that three (3) absences can result in being replaced in my part and potentially removed from the show.

• Wear proper rehearsal clothing that allows for EASY movement and safety:

  • Loose fitting T-shirt or other top that fully covers my upper body.

  • Loose fitting pants, sweat pants, or leggings -- no skirts or other bottoms that would prevent me from doing any required choreography or movement.

  • Full shoes with enclosed toe, sneakers preferred - NO flip-flops, sandals, or other open or loose fitting shoes. If I am not wearing proper shoes, I will not be allowed to rehearse on stage, but will have to sit for the whole rehearsal.

• Not bring a cellphone to rehearsal or place it in the VIP parking of the auditorium

• Not bring food to rehearsal, only water to drink (no juices, no sodas, etc.)

• Be at least 10 minutes early to every rehearsal so it can start on time.

• Be sure to use the bathroom BEFORE the start of rehearsal as there will not be a break time during rehearsal.

• Sign-in on the official attendance lists as soon as I arrive for rehearsal. This is MY responsibility.

• Bring my script to every rehearsal and take good care of it, not lose it, or leave it behind at the theatre.

• Have a pencil with a good eraser at each rehearsal to take notes in my script.

• Highlight my part in my script to make it easier to know my part by the appointed “off book” date, using two colors - one for what I say and one for what I do.

• Practice, practice, and then practice some more until I know my part “in my sleep.”

• Give it “my all” during rehearsal and performance like a good “trouper” should as all my work is valuable in creating a great show as there are no small parts, only small actors.

PARENT/GUARDIAN PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

As the parent/guardian of the cast/crew member, I will...

• Work with my child to be sure they behave properly and do not: fight, abuse another person, use inappropriate language, are insubordinate, exhibit other behavior that violates FVMS student behavior rules and guidelines.

• Not bring my child to rehearsal while my child is suspended from school for any reason. Further, I understand that repeated suspensions may result in my child’s removal from the cast.

• Be sure my child is wearing proper rehearsal clothing that allows for EASY movement and safety:

  • Loose fitting T-shirt or other top that fully covers their upper body.

  • Loose fitting pants, sweat pants, or leggings -- no skirts or other bottoms that would prevent them from doing any required choreography or movement.

  • Full shoes with enclosed toe, sneakers preferred - NO flip-flops, sandals, or other open or loose fitting shoes. If my child is not wearing proper shoes, they will not be allowed to rehearse on stage, but will have to sit for the whole rehearsal.

  • This may require a change of clothes from what they wore to school that day.

• Not allow them to take a cellphone to rehearsal. If they do, they will need to place it in VIP Parking

• Not send food to rehearsal, only water to drink (no juices, no sodas, etc.).

• Be sure to have my child at rehearsal on at least 10 minutes so rehearsal can start on time.

• Be sure my child has used the restroom BEFORE the start of rehearsal as there will not be a break time during rehearsal.

• Be prompt to pick up my child at the BUS LOOP at dismissal time. Excessive lateness pickups may result in your child being removed from the show.

• Notify Ms. Lundberg well in advance of any absences. I understand that three (3) absences can result in my child being removed from the assigned part and possibly even the show.

• Work with my child to:

  • Make sure they bring their script to every rehearsal and take good care of it, not lose it, or leave it behind at the theatre.

  • Have a pencil with a good eraser at each rehearsal to take notes in their script.

  • Highlight their part in their script to make it easier to know my part by the appointed “off book” date, using two colors - one for what they say and one for what they do.

  • Insure lines, lyrics, dances, and blocking are well learned.

• Pay the show fee (includes party & souvenir T-shirt) by the stated date. If I fail to pay the fee on time, my child will not attend the cast party and will not receive the souvenir T-shirt.

• Volunteer to assist in some way with mounting the production—help with sets, props, costumes, makeup, "kid wrangling", cast party, and other needs.
