Parents and students came together to celebrate reading Wish. We played Kahoot, discussed the book, rated the book, and made our own wishes.
With the help of our PTA and Quail Ridge Books, we were able to host Drew Daywalt and Scott Campbell as they shared about their book, Sleepy, the Goodnight Buddy.
Several parents joined their children to celebrate reading Fuzzy Mud. They played Kahoot, navigated a Fuzzy Mud Maze, and shared what they liked about the book.
Our PTA and Quail Ridge Books worked together to bring Barbara O'Conner to our school in September 2019.
We began working on our goal to improve our Professional Learning at Brassfield. We started working on this area, but we found this year was a year to decide how to best improve this area so in 2019-20 we may implement our plans. A huge obstacle was finding the time we could share professional learning with our staff.
During the 2018-2019 school year, Marni Wall, our Media Coordinator, attended two Professional Learning PD sessions. During her first session, she was able to modify a Fair Use and Copyright Presentation to share with MTAC. MTAC felt it was a valuable resource to share with the staff but needed some additional modifications before setting up sessions with the rest of our staff. During her second session, she set up a time for our Digital Learning Coordinators to come to one of our MTAC meetings so we could plan an impactful year of Professional Learning for 2019-20.
At the meeting with the DLCs, we came up with some great possible solutions for how to implement great Professional Learning. One idea was to have the DLCs train the MTAC representatives and then the representatives would take what they learned back to their PLTs. Another idea was to have our DLCs come at specific times for sessions staff would sign up to attend and receive CEUs for their time and learning. Marni Wall and Terri Hawley plan to meet with the DLCs to make a definite plan to implement these goals.
We hoped to accomplish more this year, but we look forward to starting the 2019-20 with a focus on this area.
