Barton Pond will have a daily 15-minute block dedicated to the social-emotional well-being of students. In order to support this learning, staff will use resources from the Positivity Project to teach students 24 character strengths, empowering students to form positive relationships and be their best selves. For more information, please visit Barton Pond's Positivity Project page or our Curriculum Information page.
LEAP Block (Monday-Thursday)
We know that every child learns differently and may need different kinds of support to grow. That’s where LEAP Groups come in!
During LEAP time:
Students work in small, flexible groups based on what they currently need — whether that’s extra practice, extra support, or extra challenges.
Groups change throughout the year as students grow and learn.
Your child might work with their classroom teacher or another 2nd grade teacher during this time.
LEAP groups help make sure that each student is getting what they need to learn, grow, and succeed!
LEAP Clubs (Friday: In-School Clubs)
Barton Pond has a goal of implementing a weekly enrichment opportunity for students. The vision for this program is to provide a "club-like" opportunity for all students during the school day, which will enhance students' learning experiences and expand their social opportunities. Staff will plan clubs for students that extend the curriculum and opportunities to further develop 21st century skills.
Clubs will be planned and led by staff and possibly volunteers. Students will be scheduled into a club based on an interest survey. Students will have the opportunity to join 2 clubs during the school year: one in the Fall semester and one in Spring semester. Club offerings may change from semester to semester and will run for 10 weeks each semester.
Examples of enrichment opportunities could include: Lego Robotics/Engineering, Creative Writing, Watercolor Painting, Community Service Projects, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Challenges, Foreign Languages, Chorus, Physical Fitness, Newspaper/Yearbook, Peer Mentors, Kindness Club, etc.
(Actual enrichment opportunities will be developed based on the interests of students, skills & talents of staff, and availability of staff/volunteers).
*On Fridays, we have "Flex" and classes rotate independently between a Make-Up Special (if we missed a day of school recently), an Extra-Special (students will have a special activity), or a Positivity Project Assembly. We will let you know what Special we have that week or you can check our calendar on the home page!
