ARES Counseling Program Vision Statement
All Alston Ridge Elementary School students will be equipped with personal/social, academic, and career skills necessary to be life-long learners beyond high school. Every student will be empowered through the school counseling program to grow through risks and overcome challenges, to strengthen diverse needs and talents, and to be respectful and kind to themselves and others in their communities and communities across the globe in a complex and changing world.

The mission of Alston Ridge Elementary School counseling program is to provide access, leadership and advocacy for every student. Participation in the comprehensive school counseling program ensures growth for every student in social/personal, academic, and career skills that are essential for every student, while also prioritizing equitable outcomes through collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creative problem solving so that every student achieves their greatest future potential.

School counselors support all students; from proactive support to crisis intervention.
KINDERGARTEN - FIFTH GRADE CLASSROOM LESSONS
Frequency: 5-8 lessons; 30-45 minutes
Topics: Meet Your School Counselor, Kindness, Empathy, Problem-solving, Coping Skills + More!
Many of the skills school counselors teach about are also taught by the classroom teacher and at home! It is our intent to supplement the learning that already takes place.
SHORT-TERM GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Frequency: 4-6 sessions;
30 minutes (variable)
Topics: Based on students’ needs & skills -
Examples: self-control, conflict resolution, self-esteem, grief and loss, friendship
Referrals can be made to the school counselors by students, parents, or school staff by phone, email, or written requests. *If a student self-refers, families are contacted if there are ongoing issues that affect your student’s safety or well-being. There are times families may not need to be contacted. If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please reach out anytime.
