Hello, my name is Dr. Yolanda Parker. I am from Kinston, NC, but I reside in Raleigh, NC. I have two sisters and two brothers. In addition, I am a twin as well. My twin is a boy, and we are fraternal twins. I do not have any children of my own yet, but I do have three nieces and three nephews, which I love with all my heart.
I never thought that I wanted to be a teacher one day. I wanted to be a Physical Therapist, but when I started to volunteer in the school system and working with children, I change my major to Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching children all my life. I was a Teacher Assistant before I became a Teacher. I love teaching and trying different strategies for my students. I have my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education (Mount Olive College, 2009); Master Degree in Curriculum & Instruction (Capella University, 2011); Birth through Kindergarten Certification (North Carolina Central University, 2012); Post Master’s Certificate in College Teaching (Capella University, 2013); Doctorate Degree in Leadership & Management (Grand Canyon University, 2025).
I incorporate the best teaching practices into my curriculum that result in the most positive outcomes for each student. I believe that all children (and adults) learn by doing and being involved. This is why play, hands-on learning and social skills are so important for young children to acquire, especially for children with special needs. Because children learn in different ways and at different rates, individualized and differentiated instruction is not only necessary but essential. I constantly try new teaching strategies to discover the best ones for each student and their individual learning styles. I also believe that parental involvement is an essential part of children's learning. I provide ways for parents to be involved. When we are all involved and working together children can and will learn to their highest capacity.
I like to see all of my students to become lifelong learners and be as successful as possible within their school, home, and community environments.
