Course Description

Students will create a variety of clay projects using the pinch, coil, and slab hand building methods. In addition, glazing techniques will also be explored. Freestanding sculpture, functional ware (cups, bowls, vases, etc.), and tile design will be among the projects created in this class. Students will review and apply the Visual Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Application of these elements to the students’ own original art work is a major emphasis. In addition, students will be introduced to prominent past, contemporary, and multicultural artists. Enjoyment of the process, taking pride in finished work, having positive self-esteem, and discovering personal identity are all key goals in Pottery.
