Hours of Operation
The library opens with the building at 7 AM. Until the Librarian arrives, staff members are welcome to check out books by turning on the Circulation Station and logging in using the directions on the display next to the monitor. There is also a clipboard for writing down books when computers are down. Books can also be self-checked out all day by students and staff, as the librarian is there for assistance from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Requests can be sent via email and delivered to classrooms as time permits.
Media and Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC)
With administration, faculty, parents, and chaired by the librarian, the MTAC will:
Advocate for a collaborative environment
Prioritize budget needs
Facilitate long term plans for the media and technology programs
Evaluate effectiveness of media and technology programs

Scheduling and Collaborative Lessons
Teachers are encouraged to work with the librarian to schedule time for collaborative lessons to build information literacy and encourage leisurely reading.
Faculty Checkouts limited to 100 items and their classroom Technology, AV Materials and Equipment may be checked out short term, or for the entire school year.
Lost and Damaged Books
Books should all be returned two weeks before school is out for the summer. If they are not returned, the lost book will follow their Destiny record throughout Wake County, even through High School, keeping students from graduating. Books may be returned, the exact item may be purchased and given to the library, or the amount of the original purchase may be paid to the school.
If a student withdraws from Apex Friendship Middle, they should return all materials or pay for lost materials. Books can be returned or paid for at other Wake County Schools.
Overdues
Overdue notices will be sent via email quarterly in an effort to have all books returned in a timely manner.
Destiny Library System
Students and teachers can look for books, video, and AV and technology equipment online through Destiny Discover, found on your WakeID page. The catalog will show the status of the material, and the location and call number.
Choose Destiny Discover to open the catalog.
See Call Number and Status of a book.
Watch this video for how to check out books at our Circulation Desk.
If you would like to place a hold on a book, you can click on the button for "Hold" and we will pull the book for you and send an email when it is ready. Check the Holds Shelf in the library for pickup and return it to our drop boxes when you're done. Watch this video for details.
Deselection
The collection must be continually evaluated in order to identify materials that have outlived their usefulness or for which no clear purpose is evident so these materials can be withdrawn from the collection. Input may be given from teachers and staff for assistance in identifying relevance of materials and removed materials may be recycled according to condition.
Criteria used for deselecting books from the AFMS Collection:
Age or obsolescence.
Copies held by other WCPSS Libraries for Interlibrary loan.
Coverage of the subject by other printed or electronic materials in the collection.
Historical value and use.
Number of copies in the collection.
Physical condition.
Value to the collection
Library Databases
For Research and Professional Development, students and staff can find our databases within WakeID.
Request for Library Purchases
Because we strive to support the curricular needs of our staff, and promote reading for all, we provide a Purchase Request Form for teachers and students to submit title, author, and why they might like us to purchase . The inclusion of any item in our collection does not mean that the school advocates or endorses the content of that item. We aim to provide a wide range of materials, inclusive to our community.
Selection Criteria
To guide the selection of resources, the following criteria may be used:
Appeal to patrons
Contribution to diversity of collection
Literary and Artistic excellence
Recommendations by education professionals
Reputation of author or illustrator
Support of curriculum and educational goals
Suitability for intended use
Timeliness of materials
See below for a Request for Reconsideration of Materials form:
