Hi! I'm Heather Zettelmaier, your instructor for ESL this semester. How exciting to spend this semester with YOU! I can't wait to get started.
The information on this site will help you get to know me and prepare you for a successful semester.
Why is ESL at WCC so special?
When you study English as a Second Language (ESL) at WCC, you will be taught by highly -qualified faculty and actively involved in lively classroom discussions. We offer classes at the High Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels in the following skills: Grammar, Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking (pronunciation and conversation). You can take just a few classes in our program to improve your English skills, or you can complete our ESL certificate. ESL at WCC will help you achieve the level of English proficiency you need to reach your own goals!I have been teaching ESL at WCC since 2001! I have a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University in Ohio, where I focused my degree on Eastern Europe and Russia. I also attained a MA in TESOL and a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education (English) from Eastern Michigan University. My overseas experiences include an exchange year in former East Germany, a two-year Peace Corps tour in Lithuania, and a year of teaching English in Russia.
After teaching ESL at EMU, OCC, MLC, and U of M, I can honestly say that WCC is my favorite place to teach! Every semester, something wonderful happens in my classes - students from around the world come together to study and make progress in English. I am fascinated with languages, cultures, and all of your rich life experiences that you bring to the classroom. It is challenging to push ourselves in English reading, writing, grammar, speaking, and listening, but we do it together!
In my personal life, I am married and have two wonderful boys. Our time together is so much fun! My family loves swimming in the lakes of Michigan, camping, playing games, watching movies, and making music. We live in Ypsilanti and love our neighborhood and community. In every free moment I have, you will see me reading a book for pleasure. It's probably my favorite thing to do.
I can't wait to get to know you this semester! I want to know all about your goals and help you achieve them.
