We will spend five days at CAMP Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Here we will take part in a completely new Mission Robotics/Rockets course which is run by NASA engineers. This course has been specially designed for Wellington College students.
The big idea behind the Camp KSC Robotics/Rockets is to connect the Science and Mathematics that you learn at Wellington College to real life and exciting challenges.
You will learn to build robots, gain programming skills then, you will take part in challenges designed to measure your accuracy and ability. This will lead up to a final competition controlling your robot on a mock lunar surface using only sensors for guidance.
Students will then work in teams to construct a Water Rocket using parts that have been designed, 3D printed, and laser cut in the fabrication lab. Each team is comprised of individuals working together with separate roles that simulate positions on a small scale of how NASA launches their rockets.
Teams of students will then be in charge of collecting both theoretical and experimental data for their rockets. The experimental data will be collected using a flight computer tracking real launches of their rockets outside.
After this programme, you will train as actual astronauts. This is covered on the ATX page.
