PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Students are required to dress appropriately for their physical education classes. The rationale for this policy is based on both safety and hygiene. Students should bring the following for use on days they have Physical Education class:
Sneakers with laces.
Shorts or sweatpants
White shirt or athletic sweatshirt preferably without a hood.
Students are expected to change and are not permitted to wear the same clothes that they are wearing to classes for the day. Promotes better hygiene practices.
Failure to change will have an impact on the students grade as well as the ability to participate in certain to most activities. Students may be required to do an alternative assignment.
Any student that is not able to participate due to injury is required to produce a doctors note for any duration longer than one day. If it is for one day, the student must provide a parental note and the school nurse will be notified. Students that are out for a longer period of time due to injury may be required to do an alternative assignment that is graded.
No loose jewelry, including chains, bracelets, dangling earrings, dangling belts, etc.
Failure to comply with the physical education dress policy will affect the student's grade, based on the student not being prepared for class. Parents will be notified when their child has failed to follow the physical education dress policy.
ATHLETIC SPECTATORS
Spectators are an important part of athletic competition and should, at all times, conform to accepted standards of good sportsmanship and behavior. Respect and consideration should be shown toward officials, coaches, players and fellow spectators. Students displaying inappropriate spectator conduct will be directed to leave and will be subject to disciplinary action and possible exclusion from attending athletic events. Students in attendance as a spectator need to be in good academic and behavioral standing.
The athletic association in which our students participate ( Greater Morris County Junior School Coaches Association, Inc. ) states the following regarding your attendance at a sporting event/competition: “Welcome to todays competition. Your paid or complimentary admission to this even entitles you to enjoy an exhibition of skills developed by the students in an educational setting. Please give students your positive encouragement and support. Booing, taunting, and intimidating the officials or opponents is unfriendly and unacceptable.”
ATHLETICS
There will be a fee/expected donations associated with participating in interscholastic athletic teams in the MacKinnon Middle School.
The fee/expected donations associated with this policy will be $ 25.00 per sport, per child, with a $ 100.00 cap for family.
Payment should be mailed to the MacKinnon Middle School or paid in person, in the middle school office.
This payment is to help offset the cost of officials, uniforms, transportation to and from away events, sporting equipment, etc.
Students not making payment, barring financial hardship, may not be permitted to participate.
Please note that students will not be permitted to participate in athletics if they have two or more classes they are currently failing or have recent behavioral infractions.
Any student that has made the team will have two weeks to make up their grades to get them up to passing and will be required to maintain or continue to improve upon their grades. Coaches will be expected to assist in monitoring their student athlete’s academics.
All student athletes are expected to be respectful, accountable and positive throughout their time as they represent Wharton both inside and outside the school.
