HOMEROOM
Homeroom begins promptly at 8:00 each morning. Homeroom teachers expect students to be in their rooms, and prepared to start the day and engaged in academics by the time the bell sounds to start homeroom at 8:00. As the 24-25 school year kicks off, students are encouraged to arrive between 7:45 and 7:50 unless coming for breakfast, where doors open for breakfast around 7:40. Arrive just prior to the doors opening to limit gathering outside of the school building. Staff members are scheduled to supervise students starting at 7:40. Access to the building will be officially given by supervising staff members and/or the building Principal close to 7:50. During inclement weather days with rain, snow, or temperatures to cold, doors will be opened at 7:40 and students will wait in the Gymnasium until 7:50 where students will then move to their lockers and then to Homeroom/1st Period.
The first few minutes of class are sometimes the most important minutes of class. Walking in late can disrupt the flow of class. In addition, the child arriving late could have missed some important information. As stated above, students are expected to be in their homeroom 7:59 or prior and seated by the 8:00 bell. Morning announcements being shortly after, usually around 8:02 and period 1 begins at 8:04
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
At arrival during inclement weather days and in the winter months, students will assemble in the gym. Students will be situated with their grade level peers. Unauthorized presence in the building will result in the assignment of a detention.
School is dismissed at 3:05PM. Students must exit through the main doors where most students enter prior to the start of the day.. Students should leave the school grounds promptly upon dismissal using the sidewalks and report directly home. No student should remain in the building after 3:05 PM unless authorized to do so. Students who are remaining after school for an administrative detention will be dismissed by 3:55 PM unless special arrangements have been made.
A request for Supervision at Dismissal from School form should be completed if the student is not in kindergarten and should not be permitted to walk home from school alone unless escorted by a parent, legal guardian or escort (21 years of age or older). The forms are available in the MacKinnon office and on the website.
Please be mindful to exit and enter all drop off areas in a safe, cautious, and efficient manner.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Announcements are made during homeroom to inform students of school activities, community programs and other events. Additionally, information may be either posted on the district website, in the RealTime Parent and Student Portals, or sent home, depending upon the information. Information in need of immediate attention will be disseminated to student families through use of the district’s automated system. Which utilizes your contact information noted on the Parent Portal under “Home Contact”
CHANGING CLASSES
Students are allowed two (2) minutes to change classes. To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, students must keep to the right. Courteous behavior is expected of all students. Running and loud talking or shouting are not permitted. When Duffy classes are in the corridors, they should be given special consideration and be permitted to pass as a class. All individuals in the building are to show respect to one another at all times.
EARLY DISMISSAL
Delayed School Opening:
A delayed school opening means that school will open for students at 9:55AM. Students should report directly to the area assigned for their particular grade.
Early Dismissal:
An early dismissal results in school dismissing at 12:40PM. Parents should have instructions for their children on the procedures they wish followed in the event of an emergency early dismissal. It is also advisable for parents to have a backup plan that includes neighbors or relatives who will assume responsibility for their children.
It is imperative that the office have complete and accurate contact information. It is equally important that changes in contact information are shared immediately with the main office.
