Lunch & Recess takes place during period 5 for MacKinnon Middle School students. Students are spit between Lunch 1 and Lunch 2. Lunch 1 reports to and eats in the cafeteria first then reports to recess for the second ½ of period 5. Students scheduled for Lunch 2 have recess at the start of period 5, either outside when weather permits or in assigned classroom locations on inclement weather days, and report to lunch for the second ½ of period 5.
The following rules have been established to ensure the safety and security of all individuals:
Students will walk quietly, in a single line, through the halls to the playground or assigned areas.
It is expected that students will be respectful, adhere to the expectations and follow the leadership of the staff at all times.
Recess is an incentive. Those not adhering to expectations can be restricted from access to recess when alternatives are available
Lunch 1 begins at the start of period 5 and all students scheduled for Lunch 1 report directly to the Cafeteria/APR for period 5. Lunch 2 reports ½ way through period 5 immediately following recess.
All students will enter the cafeteria from the doors located near the stage.
All students are required to have their ID’s to enter the cafeteria regardless of purchasing lunch.
Students will sit at tables with no more than 4 students to a bench.
Students will sit facing forward to the table (students should not straddle the bench or sit backwards)
Seats will be first come first served for the group. Students arriving after a group of 4 may need to find a different seat for that lunch period.
Students must remain in their seats throughout the duration of lunch. Students are not permitted to move to a new table location without permission during a lunch period.
If alternative arrangements must be made, students can request the assistance of teachers and administrators in the cafeteria.
Students who choose to buy lunch will line up in a single file line.
Cutting is not permitted. Students who cut or permit others to cut will be asked to move to the back of the line.
Students must present their student ID to purchase their lunch. Students who attempt to use another student’s ID will be removed from the cafeteria and face disciplinary action.
Sharing of food is not permitted. To ensure the health and safety of all students, only the lunch that was purchased or brought from home can be consumed by students.
Keeping the cafeteria clean is a shared responsibility of all students. Garbage cans are brought around while students are eating. Students should remain in their seats throughout lunch.
Throwing, tossing or sliding of food across tables is prohibited and will result in removal from the cafeteria and disciplinary action will be taken.
Students are permitted to use the bathroom, water fountain, nurse or main office by raising their hands and making a smart pass using the cafeteria kiosk.
Students will be dismissed once students at the table have finished eating and cleaning up their area. Tables will be dismissed one at a time.
In the event of an emergency drill or procedure, students will be given instructions on how to respond by the teachers and administrators in the cafeteria. Students are expected to remain silent during an emergency situation or drill in order to hear all directions being given.
Students who repeatedly misbehave during lunch will not be permitted to dine in the cafeteria. Parents will be notified that they will need to make alternate arrangements for their child to have lunch. Students removed from the cafeteria are not to return to school until 11:45 AM.
When at recess students must remain in designated areas at all times.
These areas include the blacktop, playground and the playing field.
The woods are strictly off limits.
Those students who are to meet with a teacher during recess must have a digital Smart Pass created from that teacher. This pass must be presented to any teacher or aide requesting it.
If a student is out at recess, students may not re-enter the building without permission from an aide.
If a child is hurt while outside, he or she is to inform a teacher or an aide. As necessary, the staff member will assist or direct the student to the Nurse's Office.
Students are reminded to share the various equipment with each other.
Please be sure to return the equipment at the end of the recess period.
Games that are "rough" in nature will not be permitted.
This includes games in which the ball is forcefully thrown at players or games involving aggressive body contact.
Rough play, such as wrestling, arm or wrist wrestling, pushing or tripping is not permitted.
The throwing of rocks, acorns, snow, ice or other objects is strictly prohibited!
Ball playing will be in designated areas during lunch recess only. Only tennis balls or other "soft" balls may be used.
Playground equipment is to be used properly and safely.
When the bell rings, students are to line up immediately and maintain an orderly line while awaiting re-entry instructions.
Failure to comply with these above mentioned rules will result in disciplinary action.
Students failing two or more classes will be assigned to “Study Hall” in place of recess until grades have risen to above passing (69.5 or higher ).
Students are expected to bring work with them and work quietly throughout the duration of the half period.
During the day or days prior the student is expected to check in with the teachers to see what work they can do while in Study Hall.
Removal from Study Hall requires a discussion between the Grade Level Chairperson, the school counselor and/or Building Administration and the student.
If you find books, articles of clothing, jewelry, etc. you should bring the item to the office.
Items left out on the field, playground or in the gymnasium will be placed on the table or clothing rack located outside of the courtyard doors across from the recess doors.
It is your responsibility to check with the Main Office to ascertain if something you have lost has been brought in. Be sure to secure personal items within your school provided locker and avoid bringing high value items into the school or onto school property.
