Student (and Parent) Responsibilities for Distance Learning

Students must log in daily via Genesis to complete attendance check-ins (please see video on the Contingency Plan website for instructions). Daily attendance is reviewed by school counselors, who make verification phone calls to parents of students who were marked absent the previous day. Once the information is verified, it is officially recorded. Chronic absenteeism is investigated by attendance officers through home visitations.
It is expected that students will complete assignments for ALL classes during this distance-learning experience in order to meet the requirement of 180 days of instruction.
Students will be held accountable for work during this time. All assigned work will have an impact on your course average - in other words, THIS WORK COUNTS!
Students in Grades 1 and up are expected to log in at 8:30 AM to view assignments, and complete them in a timely fashion. In some classes, you may be requested by the teacher to participate in "live" instruction - your teacher may live-stream a mini-lesson or hold a discussion or Q & A.
Student “time on task” completing asynchronous and synchronous digital work should equate to a basic minimum of 25 hours per week (5 hours per day in a 5 day school week).
Parents and Students in Pre K 3, Pre K 4 & K should refer to the weekly learning schedules posted on the Distance Learning page
All students (and/or parents depending on the grade level) should contact the teacher via email or Google Meet/Hangout with questions or concerns regarding assignments.
When engaging in distance learning, it is important to remember that the same rules apply to a virtual classroom as to the physical classroom. If you are participating in a "live" lesson, once class begins, mute your mic. Wait to be called upon. When it is your turn to speak, un-mute your mic. Say your name before you participate (sometimes it’s hard to tell who is speaking). Lastly, there is no taking or posting images/videos of classmates or the teachers to the web or to Social Media without permission.
When engaging in distance learning, student and parent motivation to achieve success is more important than ever before! Parents - please do your best to be as active of a participant in your child's learning as you can. It will make a HUGE difference!

Did you forget how to sign into Google to access Gmail and Google Classroom?

Your email address is your Student ID # followed by @wboe.net

Example: Jon Smith Email Address: 1349490@wboe.net

If you don't know your Student ID #, you can look it up in the Genesis Parent Portal. If you are still having trouble, contact your teacher, who can look it up for you.

Your password was created at the beginning of the year by your school and was given to you. Most of you already changed your password to something more familiar/easier to remember. If you forgot your password, please contact your teacher. The password can be reset.

If you are a parent and want to know how Google Classroom works, this will give you a quick tutorial on how to use it.

Specific Guidelines for our English Language Learners

ELL teachers utilize Google Classroom and engage students primarily through asynchronous learning.
ELL teachers record instructional lessons in addition to having scheduled Google Meet sessions with students.
WPS uses Google Translate and Remind as needed to translate any communications, materials and directions.
Several "how-to" videos have been created/recorded/shared with ELL students and their families - these videos focus on educational technology tools to assist with distance learning.
Instructional materials used by the ELL teachers (National Geographic Cengage series, iXL, ReadTheory, readWorks, Learning A-Z) all have built-in resources such as leveled text sets, embedded audio and translations that assist with the differentiation of distance learning lessons.
ELL teachers also conduct individual writing conferences with students to support the writing process.
ELL students/parents in need of additional technology have been identified - these students/parents will receive devices in the district's upcoming distribution

Specific Guidelines for Parents of Students at our Early Childhood Development Center

Instructional packets will include a daily activity for Math and Language Arts Literacy
Parents will be informed of the date for second distribution of academic packets
The first section of the academic packet will cover the time period of May 4, 2020 through May 15, 2020
The second section of the packet will cover the time period from May 18, 2020 through June 15, 2020
Parent reports will be prepared and distributed through Teaching Strategies Gold
Teachers will enter comments to identify the skills that were focused on during the 2nd Checkpoint/marking period, and skills that parents can continue to work on with their child

Equitable Access for Students

All Willingboro students have equitable access to our distance learning instruction.
Students in need of access are identified and accommodated expeditiously.
In March, April and May, several rounds of Chromebook device distributions occurred at the district’s central offices - to date, over 1500 devices have been loaned out to WPS students.
Every grade level, from Pre K through High School, has access to concrete instructional materials either digitally or in hard copy format.
General education and special education students alike have structures in place to ensure that their needs are being addressed sufficiently.
Teachers have been given a multitude of digital resources, from webinars, to videos, to links, to lesson plans.
Teachers are to engage in “business as usual” - the content within their district-approved curriculum guides is addressed daily in class using a host of differentiated instructional methods and district-approved supplemental materials.
Teachers are required to write and submit lesson plans, engage in asynchronous lessons, communicate with parents and students to field questions, and engage in weekly grade level or department meetings.
Supervision will continue through Google Classroom monitoring and lesson plan feedback by both building and central office administrators.

Extended School Learning for WPS Students

All students in receipt of district-provided Chromebooks will keep these devices over the entire summer and will return them in the Fall of 2020
This is being done to extend school learning into July and August
The WPS Office of Curriculum and Instruction will post grade-level standards-based summer assignments in all major content areas. Please be on the lookout for further announcements regarding summer assignments and activities
The Office of Special Services will hold a virtual ESY (Extended School Year) Program for students with individual education plans. Starting in July, these students will receive one hour of virtual instruction in math, one hour of virtual instruction in literacy, thirty minutes of virtual related services, and thirty minutes of virtual adaptive physical education. Please be on the lookout for further announcements regarding our virtual ESY Program.

WHS Graduation Ceremonies

On June 2, 2020, graduation yard signs, donated by the Willingboro High School PTA will be delivered to the residence of each senior who is eligible for graduation. A team of volunteers will meet at the Country Club building at 8:00 a.m. to pick up signs. Signs will be placed in front of the homes of senior students. Seniors will be asked to take a picture with the sign and send to the building principal for inclusion in the virtual graduation video.
A diploma distribution processional is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Willingboro High School. Students must be driven in a car and must sit in the passenger's seat. Cars will follow a path and students will receive the diploma from the principal. Pomp and Circumstance will be played. Students will wear their cap and gowns. Twenty-five people will be allowed to assist/attend the processional. The Willingboro Fire Department and Police Department will participate in the distribution of diplomas.
The graduation video will be shown on the last day of school, June 23, 2020 at 6:00 pm, via YouTube. The video will begin with congratulatory messages from assistant principals, township council, cabinet members, and board members. The video will simulate an entire graduation program (pledge of allegiance, speeches, musical selections). Each student’s graduation picture will be displayed when their name is announced. A letter will be sent to community businesses and churches requesting that they post the graduation date and time and a message to wear blue and red on 6/23 on their display boards.
