What are Career Development Events?

CDEs are educational events that take what is learned in the classroom and apply it to competitive contest settings. Students who compete in these events are applying skills associated with agriculture or leadership positions.

Students are encouraged to try any CDE of their interest. As you can see, there is something to suit the interests of any student enrolled in the program.


Opportunity for Science Credit

Students that meet minimum standards are eligible to receive science credit to be applied towards their high school graduation. Students at Western Brown must accumulate 3 total science credits to graduate. These include: Biology, Physical Science and another Science Elective. Currently, our program offers 0.25 credits to students who participate and meet minimum standards in Soil Judging and 0.5 credits to students who participate and meet minimum standards in Livestock Judging.

As an example, if a student participates in 2 years of soils and 1 year of livestock, they could potentially earn 1 credit of science to be applied to their transcript.


Collegiate Opportunities

Students who excel at CDEs may find post-secondary opportunities after high school that can equate to financial gain. Similar to sports, many schools offer scholarships to students to participate on their collegiate teams. Many schools offer:
