Students in 6th grade have been learning about chemical reactions and are gearing up for a check-in assessment next week. Students have learned to balance chemical equations, identify evidence that a chemical reaction has occurred, and ways to change the speed of a reaction. Students are getting ready for a test on their chemistry knowledge in a couple weeks as we transition to physics for the 2nd half of the year.
In 7th grade, we are learning about the mysterious world of microscopic life. Students are sketching their favorite microbes, learning about technology to see microorganisms, and learning the organelles of eukaryotic cells. Our first lab report will be coming soon on the topic of osmosis as a function of the cell membrane. A new enrichment will be coming shortly as well! Soon we will be discussing viruses, RNA/DNA, and vaccines!
Students in the 8th grade in the Geology unit have recently completed an explanatory essay on Sea Floor Spreading using the Claims-Evidence-Reasoning format (CER). With the last lessons on faults, we are gearing up for a unit test on Plate Tectonics later this month.
