More math options and fun

Math Software:

  • Happy Numbers: This program will be available to all current K-2 students until the middle of August.

  • IXL: This program will be available to all current 3-5 students until the middle of August. This program WILL NOT be available to current 2nd grade students after June 30th.

  • Symphony Math: While this tool will be available to all current K-5 students during the summer, the elementary math team is discouraging students from using this program throughout the summer. We are finding that many students are getting "stuck" at certain stages and parents are not able to help students with this program.

Suggested Summer Math Activities:

  • As in the past, the elementary math team has put together Suggested Summer Math Activities for families. Each school's website has a link under "for families". Here is the Happy Hollow link, the Claypit link, and the Loker link if you would like to share it with families. You will find the following resources for each grade level:

    • A list of commercial games to play that reinforces math skills.

    • A list of book titles that promote mathematical thinking.

    • A list of hands-on and interactive activities families can engage in to reinforce math skills (all of these activities do not involve a screen).

Other websites to visit:

  • Bedtime Math: This is the website that the math coaches use to find stories for the math bulletin board challenge. Every day there is a new story about something interesting from the world around us. Each story has some math questions for wee ones, little kids, big kids, and occasionally there is "the sky's the limit" questions which are more challenging.

  • Illustrative Math Talking Math: This is a website that encourages students to talk about the math they see in pictures. Each picture has one slide that has a grade level focus, and the next slide has the same picture and questions you can ask to a child at each grade level K-5. This is a great way to encourage families to talk about math in the real world.

  • Math Before Bed: This is another great website that encourages students to explain their mathematical thinking. While we have encouraged teachers to use some as Math Talks, families can explore these math situations as well.

  • Greg Tang Math: This website offers games that require logical thinking while practicing math concepts. I would encourage families to stay within the games on the website.
