As a teacher early in my career, I know how valuable professional development opportunities are—but I didn’t expect to be given one like this so soon. When my principal sent me the information for the Rising Leaders: A Workshop for Aspiring Principals, I was both surprised and grateful. It meant a lot to know that he saw potential in me and thought this experience would be worthwhile.
Attending this workshop, hosted by Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA), gave me the chance to learn from experienced school leaders, connect with other educators who share similar aspirations, and reflect on the kind of leader I want to become. Even though I’m still in the classroom, having access to this level of professional development early on has been incredibly motivating. It reinforced the idea that leadership isn’t just about holding a certain title—it’s about the mindset, the willingness to grow, and the ability to positively impact students and colleagues.
I’m walking away from this experience with new insights, strategies, and a clearer vision for my future. Most importantly, I’m grateful for a principal who supports my growth and encourages me to explore leadership opportunities. If you’re an educator with even the slightest interest in leadership, I highly recommend looking into this workshop. You never know where it might lead!
