In today’s society, the integration of a multitude of mindsets is crucial. Specifically in a space where learning is taking place, I believe embracing a growth mindset is paramount to fostering an environment where students are encouraged to attack challenges, become resilient, and view effort as a pathway to mastery. As an educator, I am committed to cultivating this mindset in my classroom to empower my students to become lifelong learners. I believe that persons with a growth-mindset who are open-minded and willing to learn through shared-experiences are more successful and better world contributors than persons who believe their potential is innate or more fixed.
I feel as though if I as an educator am going to instills these qualities into my students, then I need to partake myself and model these behaviors. What intrigued me most about MAET was the opportunity to take part in a learning and classroom experience that transcends boundaries and allows for the sharing of ideas for teaching practices across nations. In this professional learning community, it is an opportunity for me to challenge and grow my mindsets and bring information gathered back into my classroom setting. For me, the ultimate goal in teaching is to ensure children go on to be knowledgeable and globally responsible adults, who contribute to the good of the world and make it more just. I look at teaching as the moment when I can be impactful on one child who will then go on to impact many others across their lifetime. This experience serves to prepare me to educate others on this perspective. It also serves as an opportunity to explore comparative practices in the classroom and to discuss critical interventions to classroom practices. This experience is an ongoing extension of my goal to be a change-agent in the classroom and my community. As educators we have a responsibility to explore teaching innovations in order to meet the needs of students in the global community.
I have always cared deeply and felt a need to serve as an advocate for creative opportunities in learning. This approach not only equips students with the academic skills they need but also instills a lifelong love of learning and a belief in their potential to grow and succeed. A reflection on one's own mindset is crucial as it enables them to innovate, solve problems, and bring about change in their lives and in the world around them.
