WHAT IS (SEL) SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING ?

The Many Layers of SEL at WILSON/WSTEM
Universal, classroom-based, social-emotional learning curriculum for Kindergarten–Grade 5 that nurtures children’s social-emotional competence and foundational learning skills.
Delivered in SK through 5th grade annually.
A curriculum designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control.
The entire curriculum will be taught in 1st grade, with booster/review lessons in 2nd and 3rd grade.
Helps students build foundational social compentencies by strengthening perspective taking and self awareness.
Delivered in JK Annually.
Help students decipher the scocial cues to share space, flexibly interact, and regulate emotions.
Delivered in SK Annually.
A Little SPOT of Emotion: 8 Books: Anger, Anxiety, Peaceful, Happiness, Sadness, Confidence, Love, & Scribble Emotion. Helps students identify and regulate emotions.
Delivered annually in JK through 2nd grade.
Responsive Classroom is a student-centered, social and emotional learning approach to teaching and discipline. It is designed to create safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms and school communities for both students and teachers.
A Safe Space to move to when students need to calm themselves and return to a “Ready To Learn State." Various fidget tools, calming strategies, and thinking strategies are available to students at the station.
When students need a little more than the Regulaton Station. Students can come down to Mrs. Walczak's room for up to 10 minutes to use a variety of strategies geared toward regulation. Steps to re-enter the classroom are discussed prior to returning to the learning environment.
The program consists of students daily checking in with an adult at the start of school to retrieve a goal sheet and encouragement. Teachers provide feedback on the sheet throughout the day, students check out at the end of the day with an adult, and the student takes the sheet home to be signed, returning it the following morning at check in
This room is available to all students when they are managing big emotions. An adult must be available to support and supervise them in this space.
Restorative practices promote inclusiveness, relationship-building and problem-solving, through such restorative methods as circles for teaching and conflict resolution. We sometimes bring students together to address wrongdoing and how to repair relationships.
