On Wednesday, March 16th, members of the WHS choirs and drama club left Waunakee on a bus and traveled overnight to New York City. While there, they performed at the stunning Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and saw two broadway shows. Six was a rock musical that examined the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII. Hadestown was a highlight as it featured UW-Madison graduate Andre DeShields as Hermes. It told the tragic tale of Orpheus and Eurideces and students found paralells from that story with our spring production of Urinetown. In addition, students learned about the tragic history of September 11th at the 911 museum, chatted with a broadway performer, and toured Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Central Park and Rockefeller Center. This trip was sponsored by the Music Boosters and we look forward to traveling again in the spring of 2024! (Picture by @groupphoto.com)
Our Collage Concert will include music from the middle ages to the present: Everything from chant to madrigals, love songs to rock songs. There will be something for everyone!

It's a crisp Monday in October and the sounds of hundreds of voices rises up to the rafters of Bethel Lutheran Church, situated just a block from the state capital. A select group of singers from Wauankee and other Badger Conference schools are gathered to share their passion for music and for singing. Led by highly respected conductors and clinicians, Jennaya Robison (Luther College) and Brett Robison (Viterbo University), these students rehearse one day only for the evening concert at 7:00 pm. Imagine the sounds of over 200 of the best high school singers from the Madison area, focused on the task of creating beautiful music.
This unique event takes place biennially (every other year) and is organized by conference vocal music teachers. These volunteers see the need for their hardest working students to be challenged in new ways, connecting with other students that share their passions, working collaboratively rather than competitively, and bringing back the things that they learned to their ensembles. For more information, feel free to e-mail Ms. Petroff or go to the Badger Conference Honors Choir Page.
Raitings are not the reason that we learn and perform music, rather to further our understanding of music and to share the story of our song selections with our audience. That being said, Wauankee's participation at State was quite the showing! Of all vocal events, every one received a rating of a 1. In addition, Maidson Ceder recieved an exemplary performance recognition for her classical solo and Elena Paul received an exemplary performance recognition for both her classical and musical theatre solos. Congratulations students!!
