Storage

iCloud

Your iCloud storage is the info from your device that gets saved with Apple in the Cloud - it's an external drive not on your device, similar to Google Drive. If your iCloud storage is full, you won't be able to save/backup your information in case of an accident (device stops working or you crack your screen and it won't work) so we can use it on a new iPad - you will lose everything that didn't backup. It's important to make sure you keep your storage controlled so you'll always have the most current backup available to you and not lose all of your work.

Below you'll find how to fix this and help your iPad to function properly.

Select Settings

You should already be on 1) General, then select 2) "Storage & iCloud Usage" on the right side panel (this might say something different on older iPads, you're looking for something that says storage)

Select "Manage Storage" under ICLOUD

Here you can delete items under DOCUMENTS & DATA that you don't need (games often store info here). After you've reviewed this screen, select "This iPad" under BACKUPS *you can also turn off iCloud photo storage here after you've done the steps on the Photo Backup page.

Notice it shows you at the top of this screen when your device was last backed up, and the size of the backup. Select "Show All Apps" to show the complete list of apps being saved on the iCloud

Select which apps you want to be saved (this should be the important school stuff, not keyboards, weather, games, etc) by touching the toggle and selecting "delete" when the box prompts you. Note: you don't need photos to save to the iCloud if you're using Google Photos (see Photo Backup)

Now you should be able to make a new backup (saving these changes and freeing up space) by following the page on iCloud Backup
