NEW SPORTS REGISTRATION PROGRAM BEGINNING SPRING 2026: The Waterford athletic department has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The program saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.
You may review your data at any time to verify that it is current and you will only be required to sign your forms once per school year (and after any update.)
Click on the Parent Playbook / Parent Playbook - Spanish to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the bottom of the FinalForms website page and click "Get Help."
Register at FinalForms and follow the prompts to create your account, create your students and sign your forms.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
PARENTS are required to set up their FinalForms account and register their student-athlete in FinalForms with their email. Parents will receive an email prompting them to confirm and complete the registration.
STUDENT-ATHLETES are required to sign specific forms. Once parents complete signing their forms, FinalForms will then send an email to the student-athlete at the email address that the parent provides (preferably their school email address) when setting up the account and registering their student-athlete(s).
The PARENT email and STUDENT email MUST be DIFFERENT email addresses in order for the registration process to be completed. Student-athletes will not be able to participate until all required forms are signed by both the parent and athlete.
Beginning with the 26-27 school year, parents/students will only need to sign their forms once per school year (and after any update). Parents will be able to register their student-athlete for fall, winter and spring sports simultaneously once registration opens. This is especially convenient for multi-sport athletes who are currently required to register each season. Fall 26.27 Sports Registration is now open.
A current physical examination is required to be on file with us BEFORE participation in any tryout, practice, or contest in interscholastic athletics at Waterford High School. In accordance with the policy of the Waterford Board of Education and the CIAC, the physical examination for sports is valid for 13 months. No athlete may legally participate until they have medical clearance (as verified by the school R.N.) and parental permission. Please contact the nurse's office at 860-437-6956 or WHSNurse@waterfordschools.org, if you have any questions or concerns.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for filling out this registration form completely and ensuring that any and all medical information concerning your child's health, medical concerns, injuries, medications and allergies are reported to the nurse.

Tryouts will begin on Monday, August 24th from 5-7pm. Field Hockey is a wonderful sport that helps develop speed/endurance/agility/power and hand-eye coordination. This sport is played on the turf field and requires a high level of cardiovascular endurance. It is a great opportunity for athletes who are looking for a fall sport; especially basketball and softball players.
Summer League 7v7 Opportunity - This league runs on Wednesday nights in July. Email Coach Force or message her in the Lancer App Team Chat for more information.
Summer Conditioning Practices will begin in late June. See the Rec and Park website for out of season summer training opportunities.
Players should dress appropriately for the weather and should bring sneakers and turf shoes, mouth guard, shin guards, eye protection (Lacrosse Googles) approved for field hockey, a field hockey stick, and their own personal water supply. In the meantime, run on your own at least 3x/week for 30 minutes and finish with some sprinting. I also have extra goggles and sticks in case you need to start with this gear before you decide to buy your own.
Shin Guards: The best shin guards are the hard plastic with NO foam. These shin guards are a little more expensive and require long socks to keep them in place. These are best at protecting the ankle bones and therefore preferred over the typical plastic/foam guards. Eye Wear: Lacrosse goggles will be mandatory for practice and games. The sport is becoming more lenient on high sticks and aerial balls and therefore I feel it is important to have protective eyewear at all times.
All information and updates are shared on the Lancer app. and/or Google classroom. Please join field hockey team chat on the Lancer App. In order to be granted access to team chat, parents must indicate their student-athlete when requesting access. Our Google classroom code is tdlzkao.
Patrick Dougherty - Head Coach
Organized Training Activities (OTA's) begin on Thursday, August 13th from 9-11am in the weight room. Please note: you can still join football after OTA's.
There is a football parent meeting on Monday, August 17th at 5:30pm in the field house.
Team communication is conducted through the Lancer App
Summer Uniform: Athletes are asked to wear a white or blue shirt. Shorts can be blue, white, red, black, or grey.
Our program is safe, fun, and vital to our success. We won't condition in a traditional way, instead we will play tag, track short timed sprints, and practice with a ball per new CIAC rules. We will lift to our on-field performance in measurable ways (sprints and jumps). I take pride in being an outstanding developmental coach and look forward to helping our players become the best they can be.
Please reach out with any questions, feel free to forward this information to anyone else interested in playing. Remember to register for the fall regular 2026-27 football season through FinalForms.
Sincerely,
Pat Dougherty.

Players should always wear proper practice attire, have cleats, sneakers, shin guards, and have a water bottle.
Summer conditioning and training sessions will be running throughout the summer. Players should always have shin guards, running shoes, cleats, and bring plenty of water to all practices. Players are asked to bring their own, inflated soccer ball for summer sessions. Make sure your name is on your ball. __________
Unified Sports is a program that combines approximately equal numbers of athletes, with and without disabilities, on sports teams for training and competition. All unified sports players, both athletes and partners, are of similar age and matched sport skill ability. It was inspired by a simple principle; training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
WHS sponsors a unified sports program and we would be excited to have your child be a part of it. The commitment is approximately one practice per week, along with competitions between other schools a few times per season.
WHS has been recognized as a National Unified Champion School. Schools receive the designation for demonstrating commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 standards of excellence. The primary activities within these standards include Unified Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership and Whole-School Engagement.
