Matter and Energy

Absent students-

Look below for a description of work that was done in class after 10/31/19. Not all classwork can be made up due to the nature of investigations and labs in science class. There is no way for students to gain the knowledge and experiences that they miss when absent. Please be present whenever possible.

CURRENT WEEK-

12/16-12/20

Monday-Water Cycle Inquiry on Google Classroom. Complete slides seven and eight after interacting with every slide as directed. Due by Friday. Tuesday-complete yesterday's activity and Graphing practice (also on Google Classroom). Wednesday and Thursday-Engineering Practice (3D card). See below for details. It can be any kind of card, but please abide by the criteria and constraints when you complete it at home. Friday-guest speaker in the Little Theater.

12/2-12/6 (several investigations and labs make this week difficult to make up)

Monday-review of heat transfer methods (conduction, convection, radiation), plus review of expansion and contraction (slides on left). Tuesday-investigation on quantity of matter and temperature (second slides-makeup will be next week during Charger Time). Wednesday-the relationship between thermal energy and temperature will be discussed and we will graph and analyze the data from Tuesday (third slideshow below). Turn in packet 6.2.3 if complete. Thursday-conductors and insulators investigation, which will be continued on Friday (Google Classroom). Reading and CER (last slide) will be done tomorrow. Friday-complete activity from Thursday and graphing/variables lesson from today (see the fourth slideshow below-look for today's date).

11/18-11/22

Monday-Finish blue density foldable from last week (journal page 58) & yellow Energy notes and slides (see below). Tuesday-Adding and removing thermal energy slides and notes (packet pages 5 and 6). Wednesday-quiz on particles and processes (6.2.2) and the first part of the Expansion/Contraction lesson. Watch the Tyler DeWitt video on endothermic and exothermic phase changes www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cUK4jcAEaU and check with a friend or Mrs. Pay regarding your journal. Thursday-Expansion and contraction phenomena (really cool-watch the videos in the slides below) and heat transfer input stations (Google Classroom). Friday-Write the paragraph based on the expansion and contraction videos (slide 12 on the E & C slideshow)and heat transfer output stations (Google Classroom).

11/11-11/15

Monday-Test in 6.2.1 and a review of states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) on the pink vocabulary page found in the absent crate. Watch the Matter video below and use the slides to complete the pink journal page. Tuesday-Guest speaker from the Red Cliffs Desert Preserve. Wednesday-Use the "Changes in states of matter slides" below to complete the purple handout; draw vocabulary pictures for solid, liquid and gas in the new white packet; draw at least three examples and non-examples on the pink paper from Monday for the three states of matter. Thursday-continue phase changes by watching the videos and completing the CER writing paper. Friday-Density and energy. Energy slides are on next Monday's slides. Complete the What is Density? article and the blue foldable (see Mrs. Pay).

Monday-Molecules Matter lab (no makeup for lab); complete vocabulary drawings for matter, mass and volume on the new gold unit overview (in crate); complete tan unit overview boxes 2A and 2B on packet 6.1.3 and turn in both packet and yellow grading sheet from last Thursday. Tuesday-All about atoms. Use the slideshow below to complete the white atom model and blue Brain Pop atom notes. Wednesday-Molecule models stations (makeup packet available). Thursday-Making Molecules demonstration of learning (worksheet in crate day 7). Friday-Test on atoms and molecules was moved to Monday due to internet issues; finished Making Molecules; Facts about DHMO article (always, always, ALWAYS consider the source :)
