Question:  Does this online class affect my WCSD GPA?

Answer:  Yes, this completely online course is a pass/fail class does affect your GPA.  According to the USBE a passing grade is earned by completion of all assignments with an 80% overall grade.  It lasts approximately 30 days or less, and you earn .25 elective credit for passing.  If the class is failed it is entered on the transcript but can be changed once the class is successfully completed.

Question:  When will my student drive with an instructor?

Answer:  When the online class is 100% complete with all the necessary State assignments completed, the student will schedule an in person week for driving the 5 driving and 6 observation hours with one of our instructors.

There will always be two or three students and the instructor in the car at all times.  We only pick up and drop at the school.  It is up to the students to arrange the time off with their boss or coach, if its not a good week to drive then please don't schedule unless they are ready to attend each driving session.  Failure to do so, may bump them to the back of the list.

The final test for behind the wheel driving will be scheduled after the week of driving with one of the instructors other than who drove with them for the week of driving.

Important:  If a student is observed driving solo without a driver license by a Dixie High School Instructor, or is pulled over by the police while taking the class or behind the wheel portion, they will automatically fail the class or Behind the Wheel Training, and have to pay a retake fee to do that portion over again.

Question:  How much does the class cost?

Answer:  The fee is $175 for the class, so please do not sign up if you are not serious about taking and finishing during the strict dates specified below.  If you fail and have to take the class again it costs another $50 for the retake.  The week of driving and driving test are included with the original fee.

If a student fails the driving test with the Dixie High instructor, they must schedule a driving test at the DLD on their own with their own car for free, or they can retake the test with Mr. Mcrae after paying the retake fee.

We are not allowed to drive students more than 5 hours practice (Unless designated in student IEP)

Question:  Where do I pay the fee?

Answer:  Please pay in person at the Dixie High Finance Office.  If you have a question, the finance secretary's contact email is paul.wirth@washk12.org, or you can pay through Power School online through Touch Base if you're a WCSD student.  Once you have paid the fee come back to this website and choose the date of the class you would like to register for.

Question:  What happens if your student doesn't pass the class in time by the due date?

Answer:  Students can pay a retake fee of $50 to the Dixie High Finance office and send the receipt to israel.meadows@washk12.org and they will be added to the next available class session.

Question:  What if something comes up, or you decide that the session you signed up for is too soon, and you want a different class session?

Answer:  To avoid students jumping in and out of classes and not taking it seriously, we have the following policy:

*****If for any reason during the first week of the class you need to cancel and switch to a later class let me know ASAP!  Once the class has finished the first week you are committing to finish the class or pay the retake fee.  If you wait until the class is over to ask to switch to another class and not pay the retake fee, it won't be possible since the student's grade will have been already processed, we will have done the work,  and service will have been rendered paid for by the original fee.  So, please communicate with me your intentions early if you need to switch to a later course session.

Question:  What is the total time to take the class, drive with an instructor and take the final test?

Answer:  Estimated completion time for the Class, Scheduling for Behind the Wheel, and Driving test is 2-3 months, so if your birthday is less than two months away you may be delayed in obtaining your license.

Question:  What if my student is not from the school district and doesn't have a school email?

Answer:  Students not from the WCSD need to register temporarily with the school registrar Kelly Hansen, and then removed once driver ed is over.

kelly.hansen@washk12.org
