nutrition resources

If you need support meeting your family's nutritional needs, there are several resources that are available.

Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) offers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP. The DHS website is probably the best place to get started and see if you're eligible.

HACAP may also offer support. You can start at the HACAP website, or you can call the local Washington HACAP office at (319)-653-7275.

FOOD PANTRIES

The Lighthouse Center in Washington has a food pantry available. Here's their website and Facebook page. If you'd like to give them a call, their number is (319) 653-5871.

The WACO Community Food Pantry is operated out of the United Church of Crawfordsville. They are open the 1st and 3rd Thursday every month. Their shopping times are 3:30 to 5:30 and they are open to anyone. You can get updates from them through their Facebook page, or call (319) 461-0532. Jenny Kaufman is the contact, and she is awesome!

In addition to the resources above, check the Washington Country Directory of Community Services for a list of food pantries in the area and their contact information.

There may be some additional food support resources available through the school. Please feel free to contact the building administrators or school counselors for more information at specific buildings.
