Below are numerous scholarship opportunities for students! There are a couple of Junior Scholarships listed first and then the rest of the list is by month due date. I try to keep things as updated as possible, but from year to year the due dates may change a bit... please make sure you are not waiting until the last minute to click on a link and apply!!
ND Career Builders Scholarship

Junior Scholarships
Horatio Alger Scholarship
Award Amount: $10,000-$25,000
Eligibility Criteria: High school juniors with a strong commitment to complete a bachelor's degree. Demonstrate financial need, be involved in co-curricular activities and community service, display perseverance in overcoming adversity, and have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
How to Apply: Complete an online application with all supporting documents at scholars.horatioalger.org. Applications due March 15.
Voices of Democracy Competition
Award Amount: $30,000 for the top scholarship
Eligibility Criteria: Open to students in grades 9-12.
How to Apply: Record and original 3-5 minute essay on an audio CD or flash drive. This years theme is "America: Where do we go from here?." You must be the sole author, the recording must be your own voice, and it must be in English. Submit to your recording, typed essay, and application to your local VFW Post (Bismarck or Mandan Posts) for judging. For more information go to https://www.vfw.org/VOD/. Entry Deadline is October 31.
Wyland Art Challenge Scholarship
Award Amount: $250-$500 (1 Art and 1 Photography Award)
Eligibility Criteria: Open to students in grades 11-12
How to Apply: Students are encouraged to think about conservation through art. To learn more and apply to this contest from October-December visit: https://wylandfoundation.org/. Entry Deadline is December 1.
Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship
Award Amount: $7,500 (5 awarded)
Eligibility Criteria: Open to students ages 5-25 with a passion for helping to solve hunger issues and be a catalyst in their communities for change. Students must have performed unpaid volunteer activities to help fight hunger in the last 12 months.
How to Apply: Applicants must have a valid e-mail address as all correspondence will be done this way. All online applications must be submitted between October 5-December 7. More information and applications can be found at: http://us.stop-hunger.org/.
Easton/NFAA Scholarship
Award Amount: $5,000 (5 awarded)
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be members of NFAA or NAA/USA Archery. Open to all high school students, but you must notify the organization when graduating with the college you are planning to attend. Applicant must have a 2.0+ GPA and must compete in archery during the entire academic year.

JFK Library Foundation Essay Contest
Award Amount: $100-$10,000 (25 awards given)
Eligibility Criteria: The contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 and selection is based on the quality of an original essay.
How to Apply: Write an original essay of 700-1000 (with additional citations and bibliography of at least 5 sources) about an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917. All applicants must have a nominating teacher that helps guide them in the research and writing process and is listed on the application. For further details about the contest and selecting appropriate topics visit: https://www.jfklibrary.org/. All applications and essays are due January 13.

High School Heisman Scholarship
Award Amount: State winner- $1,000; National finalists- $2,000; National winner- $10,000
Eligibility Criteria: High school senior with a 3.0+ GPA, plays a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer or Winter Olympics, and is a leader and role model in their school and community.
How to Apply: Register and fill out the application at www.heismanscholarshipapplication.com by October 19. Have a school official review your application and then complete the essay portion by October 21!
Coca Cola Scholars Program
Award Amount: $20,000
Eligibility Criteria: Current high school seniors, carrying a 3.0+ GPA after their junior year, and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
How to Apply: Go to http://www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org/apply and click the "apply here" link. Submit the online application by October 31.

Elks Most Valuable Student Award
Award Amount: $1,000-$50,000 (varying levels of awards based on where you land in the competition)
Eligibility Criteria: Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen.
How to Apply: Fill out an application at https://www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/MVS.cfm. Students will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The top 500 students from around the country will be guaranteed scholarship money. The top 20 will participate in an all expense paid leadership weekend in Chicago in April to compete for the top scholarships. Application deadline is November 13.
December
Burger King McLamore Foundation Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors, have a 2.5+ GPA, and be passionate about serving the community. Plan to enroll full-time in a 2-year, 4-year, or vocational-technical school for the 2017-2018 school year.
How to Apply: Create an account, complete the application, upload unofficial copy of your current transcript and any other supporting documents needed. For more information and to apply, visit https://bk-scholars.com/. The application window is open from October 15 and the deadline is December 15.
NDSCA High School Essay Contest
Award Amount: $1,000
Eligibility Criteria: Be a high school senior attending a school where your counselor is a member of NDSCA (Mrs. Leingang. is a member, so you can all apply!)
How to Apply: Complete the application, write an essay of 500 words or less on your career plan and who/what helped you with your decision, and 1 letter of recommendation. The application and details can be found at http://www.ndsca.us/awards.html. Application packet must be postmarked by December 1.
U.S. Senate Youth Program
Award Amount: $10,000 and a trip to D.C.
Eligibility Criteria: Be a junior or senior representing the state your parents live in and hold a high-level leadership position in their school (ex. Student body president/VP; class president, VP, secretary, treasurer, STUCO representative, National Honor Society Officer)

ND Corn Growers Association Scholarship
Award Amount: 10- $1,000 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors or college students. Must be a member of the ND Corn Growers Association.
How to Apply: Fill out an online application with attached list of school and community activities with awards and honors, career plan essay, 2 letters of recommendation, resume, copy of transcript, and application for NDCGA membership number. Applications can be found in the counseling office or at http://www.ndcorn.org/corngrowers/news-resources/scholarship-form/. Applications must be postmarked or emailed by January 31.
ND Mensa Scholarships
Award Amount: $500- $1,000; 2 are guaranteed to a ND resident.
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors in the U.S. that will be enrolled in a post-secondary institution for next school year.
How to Apply: Fill out an online application and submit an essay of no more that 550 words. Applications can be found at www.mensafoundation.org/what-we-do/scholarships/. The system will match you with scholarships you can apply for through the Mensa system. Applications must be submitted by January 15.
Lisa Burdolski Memorial Scholarship
Award Amount: $300 statewide scholarship and a chance to compete nationally for $1,000 scholarship
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors in the U.S.
How to Apply: Applications can be found online at http://usjcisenate.org/scholarship-program. Fill out the application, print it, sign and date it, and mail with attached required documents to North Dakota JCY Senate Scholarship, 1372 32nd St. S. #7, Fargo, ND 58103. The application must be postmarked by January 14.
Ronald McDonald House US Scholarship
Award Amount: Minimum $1,000
Eligibility Criteria: Current high school senior that is eligible to attend college next year, legal U.S. resident, under 21, and a 2.7+ GPA.
How to Apply: Complete the online application at https://rmhlv.org/what-we-do/scholarship-program/. The application deadline is January 18 and the recommendation deadline is January 25.
North Dakota Farmers Union Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: High school senior or college undergraduate, a member of Farmers Union, must have had a 2.5+ GPA in last 3 years of school, and must be pursuing a career important to rural America.

February
McLean and Basin Electric Scholarships
Award Amount: $500 each
Eligibility Criteria: Students who are or have parents that are members of McLean Electric Cooperative and is planning to enroll as a full-time college student in the fall.
How to Apply: Complete the application that can be found online at https://www.mcleanelectric.com/scholarships. Application and supporting documentation are due to the address on the application by February 1.
Elks Legacy Award
Award Amount: $4,000 ($1,000 for each for four years); award 250 total nationwide.
Eligibility Criteria: A high school senior who is a child or grandchild of an Elks member, must have taken the ACT/SAT, be attending a U.S. college or university in the fall, will be required to perform service one a year with an Elks Lodge throughout the next 4 years if elected
How to Apply: Complete the online application at http://www.elks.org/scholars/scholarweb/legacy/rules.cfm. Applications are due by 12 pm on February 5.
North Dakota Crop Improvement & Seed Association
Award Amount: 3- $1000 scholarships to incoming NDSU freshmen AND 3- $1000 scholarships to NDSU undergraduates (excluding freshmen).
Eligibility Criteria: Must be a ND resident, applicant or parent must be a member of the county Crop Improvement Association, and must be a full-time student at a college in the fall.
How to Apply: Apply online at: https://ndcropimprovement.com/north-dakota-college-scholarships-awards/. Application Deadline is February 15.
Enerbase Cooperative Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Applicant or parent/guardian must be a current patron member of Enerbase and must have done at least $2,500 worth of business in 2016. Open to high school seniors that will be entering their first year of college in the fall.
How to Apply: Complete the application online at http://enerbase.coop/scholarships/. Applications are due February 9.
Foundation for Rural Service Scholarship
Award Amount: Amounts vary and a number of different scholarships awarded (see link below)
Eligibility Criteria: Graduating high school senior, U.S. citizen, be sponsored be a current NTCA- The Rural Broadband Association member, accepted into a 2 or 4 year college, have at least a 'C' GPA, and express interest in returning to a rural community upon graduation.
How to Apply: Complete the application form, complete a 300-word essay on one of the given topics, have a high school teacher or guidance counselor complete the educator's statement, submit one letter or recommendation from a community leader (not an educator), 2 copies of your transcript, and have a sponsor signature from NTCA Member. For further information and application visit: https://www.frs.org/programs/youth-programs/scholarships. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 25.
NDCDEA Scholarship
Award Amount: 4- $1,000 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors and college students majoring in agriculture/natural resource management/environmental or related fields to help with conservation. Must be a ND resident and also have a 2.5+ GPA.
How to Apply: See Mrs. Leingang for a copy of the application. Complete application along with a 500 word essay on the following topic: Soil is essential for growing the world food supply. What are some beneficial conservation practices producers can do to protect and enhance the soil? Applications are due February 29.

ND Stockmen's Foundation Scholarships
Award Amount: $500- $1,000 depending on scholarship
Eligibility Criteria: There are a number of scholarships given by the foundation that are open to high school seniors. Each one requires the applicant to have an interest in a beef-related industry or be majoring in an agricultural related field.

Farmhouse Fraternity Scholarship
Award Amount: 6- $3300 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Any male that is planning on attending NDSU in the fall as a freshmen. Applicant should demonstrate the values of the FarmHouse Fraternity, including: scholarship, intellectual, spiritual, social, and moral development. Preference will be given to someone who demonstrates the characteristics of grit and perseverance.

Marine Corps. Scholarship Foundation
Award Amount: varies
Eligibility Criteria: Child or step-child of one of the following: active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Marine; Marine killed while serving; Active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman, Navy Chaplain or Religious Program Specialist who is or was attached to a U.S. Marine Corps unit or who was killed while serving with a U.S. Marine Corps unit. Also, must have a 2.0+ GPA, demonstrate financial need, and planning to attend college or a technical/trade school.

Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship
Award Amount: 15- $5,000 scholarships awarded across the country
Eligibility Criteria: High school senior, be an ALA Junior member for three consecutive years and have paid all their dues, and show financial need through FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).
How to Apply: Application can be downloaded and submitted at https://www.legion-aux.org/Scholarships/Spirit-of-Youth. Applications due March 1.
Spirit of Youth Scholarship
Award Amount: 5- $5,000 scholarships awarded to ALA Junior members across the country
Eligibility Criteria: High school senior, a direct descendent of veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, have 50 hours of community service verified in writing from the organization volunteered for, and show financial need through FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).

Rainbow Energy Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000- 9 scholarships total awarded
Eligibility Criteria: Any senior from Garrison, Max, Underwood, Turtle Lake-Mercer, Washburn, Wilton, Center-Stanton, Hazen, Beulah; Plan to enroll full-time at a ND college, university or vo-tech. school, and be a U.S. citizen.

American Legion Auxiliary National Level Scholarships
Award Amount: varies
Eligibility Criteria: If you are a Junior Member of the Auxiliary or a child of a veteran there are several scholarships you can apply for through the Legion!
How to Apply: Print out and complete the application from the American Legion at www.alaforveterans.org/scholarships. Applications due March 1.
American Legion Nursing Scholarships
There are 2 different nursing scholarships that are available through the American Legion: Past President Parley Grace Holmes, MD Nursing Scholarship AND Past President Parley Nursing Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: Must graduate from a ND high school and be pursuing a degree in nursing (LPN or RN). Applicant must be a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of active military or honorably discharged military member living or deceased.
How to Apply: Print out and complete the applications from the American Legion at www.ndala.org under the Parley page link. Applications due March 1.
WRT Scholarship
Award Amount: 7- $1,000 scholarships and 1- $1,000 technical scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Be a high school senior in one of the 7 regions WRT serves and parents must be members of and receive services from WRT. One scholarship given to each area WRT serves.
How to Apply: Apply online at www.westriv.com. Complete the application and send it along with your transcript and ACT scores by mail or to the email listed on the application form. Deadline is March 1.
William John Tuntland Masonic Scholarship
Award Amount: 2- $2,000 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Must be graduating from a McLean Co. high school or a McLean Co. college student and a resident of McLean Co.. Applicant must be planning on attending and accredited School of Nursing in ND, and undergraduate student at NDSU, or a student of Law or Medicine at UND.
How to Apply: See Mrs. Leingang for an application. Application needs to be accompanied by two letters of recommendation. Applications are due by March 1.
ND Farmers Union Co-op House Scholarship
Award Amount: Varies
Eligibility Criteria: Must be a high school senior planning to enroll as a freshmen at NDSU. Current ND Farmers Union members, members of cooperative, or relative of past Co-op House member. Must be pursuing a career important to rural America, and have a 2.5+ GPA in their last 3 years of high school.
How to Apply: Fill out online application and recommendations by visiting https://ndfu.org/youth/scholarships/. Also, send transcripts and ACT scores with application. Application deadline March 15.
NDGA Richard Bronson Scholarship
Award Amount: Varies
Eligibility Criteria: You must be presently employed by an NDGA member store for at least 1 year OR a parent/guardian must be employed by a NDGA member store for 2 years; must be attending a Vocational College or University in Fall.
How to Apply: See Mrs. Leingang for an application. Complete application and send along with essay and letter of recommendation. Applications are due by March 18.
Prairie Hills Scholastic Banquet Student Scholarship
Award Amount: Multiple scholarships $500 or $1,000
Eligibility Criteria: Graduating high school seniors from Garrison, Turtle Lake, Underwood, Washburn, White Shield, and Max. Merit based scholarship (academic, student and volunteer activities, references) and open to any student pursuing a liberal arts degree.
How to Apply: See Mrs. Leingang for applications. Must send transcripts and letter of recommendation along with application. Applications are due March 31.
Midwest AgEnergy Group Scholarship
Award Amount: 2- $1,000 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: graduating seniors from Garrison, Max, Underwood, Turtle Lake-Mercer, Washburn, Wilton, Center-Stanton, Hazen, Jamestown, Valley City, Barnes County North, Medina and Montpelier High Schools, as well as home schooled students. Seniors must be planning to enroll full-time at a North Dakota college, university, or vocational-technical school in the fall.
How to Apply: Applications can be found online at http://www.midwestagenergygroup.com/image/cache/Midwest_AgEnergy_Group_Scholarship_Application.pdf . With the application, include: a list of activities and work experiences, most recent high school transcript, one letter of recommendation, and a two part essays telling about yourself and your goals and aspirations (typed, double spaces, and no more than 3 pages). Send the application and attachments to the address on the forms. Applications are due March 31.
CHS High School Scholarships
Award Amount: $1,500 scholarship
Eligibility Criteria: Must be a high school senior graduating in the spring and attending college in the fall. Must be planning to pursue a degree in an agricultural related field or pursuing a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) field of study with an interest in an agricultural or energy-related career.

River Riders Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000 scholarship
Eligibility Criteria: Open to all seniors in McLean County.

GRE Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to six scholarships $500-$1,000
Eligibility Criteria: Open to all seniors in the following areas: Barnes County North, Garrison, Jamestown, Max, Turtle Lake-Mercer, Underwood, Valley City, Washburn and Wilton

Farm Credit Services Scholarship in Agriculture
Award Amount: 4- $1,000 scholarships awarded
Eligibility Criteria: High school seniors who plan to enroll in college in the fall, be from an actively farming or ranching family or pursue an agriculture career.

Hubert and JoAnn Seymour Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000- $2,000
Eligibility Criteria: high school seniors, planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or university. Must be a Farmers Union member.
How to Apply: Complete application (must be types), copy of high school transcript, two letters of recommendation (one from Farmers Union leader and one from a school counselor or teacher, and a 3 page essay (typed and double spaces): "Identify and discuss the significance of rural values in America and on your life." Complete the application by visiting: https://nfu.org/education/scholarships/. Applications due April 1.
American Legion Auxiliary, Department of ND, Education Program
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: Must be attending a college, university, or trade school in ND. Membership or affiliation with the Legion is not required, but financial need is a factor.
How to Apply: Print out and complete the application from the American Legion at www.ndala.org under the Education page link. Applications due April 1.
Reuben T. Guenthner Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: Be graduating from a ND high school, have completed one or more CTE classes from grades 9-12, enroll in a 2-year ND public postsecondary institution, and enroll as a full-time student in a CTE program of 2 years or less.

Dushinske & Jamison Water Resources Scholarship
Award Amount: 4- $1,500 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Must be planning to attend a ND college and preference given to, but not limited to, those studying water-related fields and whose families have taken an active role in ND water resource management.

NDRWSA Patrick Denne Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,500 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Any child/grandchild of a current city/rural water system employee or elected city/rural water system official (area must be a NDRWSA Member) OR applicant is enrolled in BSC's Water and Wastewater Technology program, completed 1 semester of the program, has a 2.5+ GPA, and have a minimum of 12 credit hours for the semester.

Complete application; HS or college transcript; written essay; paragraph summarizing career goals; list of extracurricular/leadership activities; 400-500 word essay submitted on the importance of the water industry; and jpeg photo submitted as part of the application. Coteau Properties Scholarship & Sponsorship
Award Amount: varies
Eligibility Criteria: 2.5+ GPA and pursuing a degree in accounting, business, engineering, IT, surveying, environmental, diesel, electrical, or welding technology (for scholarship). 2.5+ GPA, 15+ ACT, and pursuing a degree in diesel mechanics, welding, or electrical at NDSCS for the next academic year (sponsorship).

Falkirk Mining Company Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 or $1,000 scholarships (multiple)
Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors from Max, Garrison, Underwood, Turtle Lake-Mercer, Washburn, and Wilton High Schools. Must have enrolled or are planning to enroll full-time at an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school in the fall.

Award Amount: 2- $1,200 scholarships
Eligibility Criteria: Students who plan to attend BSC and go into the medical field (preferably oncology).

Community Memorial Hospital Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: Student planning to pursue a two or four year degree in any medical profession and be enrolled or planning to enroll in a ND college. Students must live within the Community Memorial Hospital service area. Must have a 3.0+ GPA.

Farmers Union Stanley Moore Scholarship
Award Amount: Several $1,500 scholarships awarded
Eligibility Criteria: Must be a Farmers Union member or a child of a member. High school senior, college student, or non-traditional student seeking finding for a two- or four-year accredited college or university or technical school for any area of study (Priority given to ag related fields).

Complete the application and include: a copy of your high school transcript, letters of recommendation from a Farmers Union leader and from a teacher, and a typed three page essay outlining your personal and professional goals and your involvement with Farmers Union. Dakota Cruisers Car Club Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Eligibility Criteria: Must be a local area ND high school senior. Students enrolled or planning on enrolling in a vocational college in ND and will be pursuing a career in automotive repair and/or restoration.
How to Apply: See Mrs. Leingang for an application. Complete the application and include: 2 letters of recommendation; a 200 word, hand-written essay explaining what automotive field you plan on pursuing and why, and verification form. Application materials must be received by April 30.
Operation 11 Tyler Schaeffer Memorial Scholarship
Award Amount: Varies
Eligibility Criteria: Open to HS Seniors or undergraduate college students. Students should be pursuing a career in Social Work or Criminal Justice and be driven to help make the world a better place.
