EL Academic English

EL Academic Language is a course for upper-level EL students. It is designed to further develop learners’ reading and writing skills and acquire the academic vocabulary necessary for success. A variety of texts, including long works of fiction, will be read and examined, and the issues raised will be discussed both orally and in written form.
EL English 1

This course is for beginning-level EL students that do not yet have the English skills necessary to participate successfully in grade level English coursework. Students are assessed and lessons are developed to help them progress in each of the four language domains: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
EL English 2

EL Skills

If students are in mainstream classes, they will be helped with homework and projects with which they need assistance. If students are not in most mainstream classes, the emphasis will be on building foundational English and math skills.
EL Study Hall

EL Study Halls are designed to give EL learners academic support during study hall. Here, students are given support when completing assignments from other courses. The academic support is provided by EL teachers, EL paraprofessionals, and the cultural liaison. There is no credit given for this option, but the help given increases student learning and success.
Newcomer English

The Newcomer English Course is designed to provide intensive, accelerated English language instruction and Spanish-language bilingual support for students in grades 7-12 who are new to the United States and new to English. The goal is to assist students in developing linguistic survival skills as well as adapting to a new culture and the American school system.
