Edgewood Middle School strives to create a culture founded on two essential fundamentals, service and work-based skills. EMS intentionally provides students with opportunities to serve their community with empathy and compassion, as well as, develop critical working skills for 21st century employment. Edgewood principal, JoElla Hauselman, actively pursues staff members that share these same core values to ensure all members, staff and students, are seeking these important social skills. EMS offers a myriad of opportunities for students and staff to serve their community such as, Reading for Riley, Local canned food drives, and Boomerang Backpacks, just to name a few. The 21st century will provide unique obstacles and opportunities for our current and future students. With programs such as Junior Achievement, College and Careers, and Orthoworx's Manufacturing Experience EMS provides an introduction to many different pathways.
The surveys show the positive attitudes towards STEM from EMS staff. The STEM Leadership Team asked staff questions about their personal beliefs and understandings of teaching STEM curriculum. From these results, the Leadership Team is able to focus staff development on areas of concern to better serve students. These feedback forms provide staff with ownership of decisions based around STEM curriculum within all content areas. Thus, ensuring continual evaluations and development of stronger STEM curriculum.
Edgewood uses various inquiries of all stakeholders to assess the best avenues to foster high quality student engagement and growth. From these assessments multiple demographics are represented and involved in all areas of current and future STEM decisions. Community partners are continually being added through these initiatives allowing for more diverse real world content and assessment.

The ME week contains many lesson plans about manufacturing careers and testing of products. The students also get to see manufacturing in action by touring several local companies and our local Warsaw Area Career Center (WACC). This is a pre-assessment from ME week that all students took.
Students were given the opportunity to express their own values and experiences with STEM using our own short survey.
