Lesson V: Be a Digital Creator, Not Just a Digital Consumer

  1. Thinglink makes images and videos interactive
  2. Code.org offers a host of tools to use code to making animations. Check it out and teach a friend. Code.org Create Site
  3. Take the dance challenge with Code.org
  4. Canva is easy to use design software with templates for infographics, posters, and more
  5. Storybird is a beautiful app that inspires writing with art
  6. Powtoon makes creating animated presentations full of awesome
  7. Video editing tools (i.e. YouTube Editor, WeVideo)
  8. Screencasting tools (i.e. Screencast-O-Matic, Screencastify)
  9. Blogger and Anchor are podcasting tools to share your ideas with an authentic audience.

Lesson VI: Social Media, Who Are You Online?

  • Link to Google Document for Distribution. Students will review while they view the NYT slideshow that compares real people with their online Avatars.
  • Distribute this document. Students will be forced to make a copy. They will be asked to take a stand on the pros and cons of Finsta accounts. They will then break up into two teams and debate the two sides of the issue. You might make a copy of this document and add different requirements for the debate.
  • Google Slideshow: Create a collaborative slideshow with your class. Tell students that once they have added your slide to the deck, please be sure you do not access anyone else's slide. All edit changes are saved and can be reviewed by teachers. Teachers: You will need to create the slidedeck template in Google Slides and share with your class in Google Classroom. Make sure it is editable. Directions for student slide are on the web page.
