In this class, students will be studying world civilizations during the Medieval time period (which begins with the fall of Rome in 476 and ends around 1600 CE). We will examine these civilizations through the social studies lenses of history, geography, economics, and civics. Our units of study include: Medieval Europe, the Islamic world, West Africa, East Asia, and the Americas. We’ll end the year by looking at the movements that brought the world into the modern era.
A key component of social studies learning is asking questions, searching for answers, and communicating findings with others. As part of this class, students will explore a variety of 'texts' (primary documents, artwork, artifacts, maps, articles, textbook, etc.) to learn about world history. Along the way, students will develop skills they need to be independent, critical thinkers.
