At Alvaton Elementary, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all students and staff. To help prevent the spread of illness and protect the well-being of everyone, the following guidelines have been established.
If your child exhibits symptoms of illness, please keep them at home until they are symptom-free and well enough to participate in classroom activities. If a student becomes ill during the school day, the school nurse will assess their condition and determine whether they should be sent home based on the nature and severity of their symptoms.
Below are common examples of conditions that may require a student to stay home or be picked up from school:
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis): Redness and yellowish discharge from the eye. The student may return once redness and drainage have resolved.
Fever: A temperature of 100°F or higher. The student must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
Chicken Pox: Reddish, blister-like sores that may itch. The student may return five to seven days after onset, once no new blisters have appeared and existing blisters are completely dried.
Vomiting or Diarrhea: The student should remain home until symptoms have stopped and they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Head Lice: The student may return after proper treatment has been completed. If lice persist, a doctor’s note indicating that the student is nit- and lice-free may be required. Parents must accompany their child upon return so the nurse can perform a recheck before readmission.
Bleeding: If a student’s clothing becomes stained with blood during the school day, parents will be contacted to bring a clean change of clothes. The parent will be responsible for taking soiled clothing home.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain a healthy environment for all our Bluebirds. The school nurse’s professional judgment will guide decisions to send a student home for health-related reasons to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.
